From the Vicar...
Some random thoughts as summer comes to a close
I think this may have been the most beautiful summer in memory. Lots of pleasant, dry days - and occasional rains right when we needed them. Overall, attendance has been pretty good this summer (even beyond expectations a couple of times) but then, last Sunday, it seemed we went "a picnic too far." It wasn't hard to "count the crowd" Sunday at our joint picnic at Trinity. We had exactly 16 in attendance - 10 from Trinity, 5 from Christ Church, and me...who sort of counts as "both." Not what we'd figured after 50+ at each of the previous picnics this summer. The shame of it all was that, despite an "iffy" forecast, the weather was perfect. On the plus side, with a crowd that small it was easy to keep all our tables (all three, that is!) in the shade. Kudos, by the way, to Patrice Wood, who did a great job coordinating.
Some other thoughts...
Goodbye, Holy Roller...and a future hello to a successor
I'm pleased to report Diane Lewis, Little Blessings' director, has found a buyer for the church bus, which we took off the road this past winter. This is a great next step toward Little Blessings acquiring a bus to succeed it, primarily for their use, but with the opportunity for us to use it as well. Stay tuned as progress on that front moves forward.
We still need E-News editors for each church
Right now, Patrice Wood is handling the editing - and we got one expression of interest from Christ Church about sharing that load - but we really need a new person at Trinity as well now that Bob Gallagher can no longer do it. Any takers out there?
A fire alarm repair bill that made us "gulp"
In July, the fire alarm at Trinity went on the fritz. The good news? It's now fixed. The bad news? The bill was over $1,200. Not something we anticipated. We hate to "pick your pockets" to ask for help with this after all the generosity you have shown this year - so we won't. But if you happen to feel a bit generous, we won't refuse to accept!
The "goals team" is doing great work
We had a great meeting on Aug. 12 to move forward on the goals established at last winter's Bishop's Committee retreat. So often, we have meetings like this and nothing happens in follow-up. Not this time. We have a great crew - and I think you'll see some good things unfold this coming year. Stay tuned.
It's a miracle!
Scroll down and you'll read about a project that started a year ago...and then stalled for a while as we worked out some glitches in data entry and software-related "stuff." Our shared pictorial directory is at last back on track, with all data now having been entered and make-up photography scheduled for September. Many thanks to Nita Niemczyk and Gary Dozier, who have been working hard to make this project a reality.
* * *
We stand on the threshold of a busy and productive fall with lots of great initiatives afoot in both congregations. Both churches are "humming along" well and I'm excited to see how our ministry is maturing as we continue working together to fulfill the ministry God is giving us. Be watching next week's E-News for a report on this week's Bishop's Committee meeting - you'll see we're doing some great stuff!
Fr. Chip
Bishop to visit St. Andrew's Aug. 31
Bishop Rob Hirschfeld will be at St. Andrew's Chapel in Rye on Sunday, Aug. 31st at 8:00 (Rite I) and 10:00 (Rite II with music). It is a great way to meet and talk with him. His next visit to the Shared Ministry of Trinity and Christ Church will be on Sunday, Nov. 16, when Christ Church will serve as host.
Photo Directory -
Save the date for one more photography day!
Our Directory is in the last stages of completion. We have so many new parishioners who need to be included, we've decided to have one more picture day at each church.
The picture days will be:
- September 14 at Christ Church
- September 28 at Trinity Church
Anyone who has not had their picture taken may do so. Even if you are not having your picture taken for the Directory, we still need you to fill a form out, as it covers permission for publishing your photo in the Newsletter, Web Pages and other media.
Our Shared Ministry Cycle of Prayer
Each week, in both of our churches, we pray for one ministry we share and one or two households in each church. About once every six weeks, we will instead
using the Shared Ministry Collect we prayed throughout the opening months of our Shared Ministry.
In our prayers the next two weeks, we give God thanks for..

Bible Study group to reconvene for fall at Trinity
Trinity Church, Hampton, has always had a Bible Study group, with the emphasis on study. This is not a group that sits and reads the Bible, but a group that actively studies to learn the Bible.
Why? The Bible is the most important book in a Christian's life. It is a life extender for eternity! It is truly the guide book to Eternal Life, salvation. As Jesus so succinctly pointed out on many occasions, our lives cannot relate to others on Earth simply by our emotions.
An example is how he pointed out in Matthew chapter 5: verses 43-48 words to the effect that we are not here to just love our friends, as God allows the Sun to fall on the good and the evil and rain to enrich the righteous and the unrighteous. We must strive to be perfect as God the Father is perfect. God cares not of East, West, South or North. He wants us to love everyone! For if you love only those who love you, what reward do you have? Even criminals and the wicked love their friends.
We invite all to join our growing group which digs into the Bible, and utilizes the very best commentaries and tools available to reach the full meaning of the great words within the Bible. Jesus is walking wisdom and we all want to grasp and own it. BIBLE truly means: Basic Information Before Leaving Earth!
WHEN: We begin the Fall Season on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.
WHERE: We meet in the Narthex of Trinity Church, Hampton.
Come join us. You will be glad you did!
Mike Spinelli
Facilitator
Safe Church training now consists of two parts: a two-hour online course and a three-hour class.
Free online training using the curriculum "Safeguarding Our Children" is now available for use by congregations in this diocese. Each congregation has been assigned their safe church minister who can provide trainees with a unique ID and password they will need to access the program. Because the program uses video clips, broadband Internet access is essential. Completion of online training is required in order to attend the follow up in person 3 hour training session.
Refresher Training is required every 3 years. Anyone in need of refresher training will take the new Initial Safe Church Training.
The next three-hour class will be held from 8:30am - noon Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Christ Church, Exeter. If you would like to attend the Exeter class to fulfill your Safe Church training, please contact your Safe Church minister:

Daily Meditation
The Rt. Rev. Steven Charleston August 22, 2014
What do we do when it feels like things are starting to fall apart? I don't ask this to make us anxious; I ask it because we are already anxious. I am not a big news watcher, but even a person with his head in the clouds as much as me can feel the impulse of fear spreading around the world. So I think it is time to come down to earth and proclaim again the intense power of love. Things are not falling apart. The world is not coming unglued. Our community is not overwhelmed. The love of God is the same love that we share with one another. It is what binds us together. And against it fear falls flat. Do not be anxious. Be love and be whole.
