From the Vicar...
You have lots of great ideas - how many can we implement?
Beginning on Pentecost Sunday and continuing throughout June, we received a number of responses to our Time and Talent survey for 2014/15. While many consisted of reaffirmations of ministries people were already undertaking, a number of people signed up to serve in new ways - and, most remarkable of all, quite a few had ideas for new ministries to offer in the coming year.
It may be that not all of the items listed below are possible - or even feasible. But your response will tell the Bishop's Committee and me whether or not there is interest sufficient to further pursue these possibilities. Take a look at the list and tell me what you think:
- Peter Monte of Christ Church offered to spearhead a program on Death and Dying, and has already teamed up with area clergy to offer such a program this fall. We are tentatively looking at Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at Christ Church - open to all in the Seacoast Convocation.
- Peter also suggested a couple of other things:
- o A joint Vacation Bible School with St. John's and Trinity, using Christ Church's spacious grounds, and sharing resources with both congregations.
- o A revival of the Tuesday Sandwich Ministry - provided he has sufficient help to pull it off.
- o A Christmas Tree Sale at Christ Church, with workers and proceeds shared between the two churches. (Note: If this were to be a "go" we'd need to know ASAP, as it takes time to organize.)
- Fran Plank of Trinity Church expressed an interest in expanding our healing ministry there, and "would be happy to explore, learn about, and practice this ministry with anyone who would like to join."
- Gary Dozier of Christ Church would like to offer an Adult Education program on the Shroud of Turin.
- Gordon Lane and Anne Newell of Trinity both offered to help with continued Evangelism efforts. Gordon, in particular, would like to see us do Come and See again - but at a more hospitable time of year weather-wise than last year's program.
- The Rev. David Plank is interested in offering a daytime Bible Study.
- The suggestion was made that we participate in the Seacoast CROP Walk on Oct. 12 in Dover. A planning meeting is set for Sept. 2 in Dover if any are interested in taking up this challenge.
If you have interest in participating in any of the above, be in touch with me at vicarchip@gmail.com and I will see that the people who have offered to lead are aware of your interest. Together, we can continue growing and strengthening our Shared Ministry.

Saturday 5 p.m. services will continue throughout the summer at Trinity Church.
Our next shared Outdoor Eucharist and Picnic - Sunday, Aug. 17
On Sunday, Aug. 17, Trinity Church will host our final Outdoor Eucharist and Picnic - 11:00 a.m. on the side lawn. For those who cannot attend, there will be 8:45 and 10:30 said services at Trinity and Christ Church respectively. Christ Church will
welcome the Rev. Mary Adebonojo, a retired priest of the Diocese of Pennsylvania, as Celebrant and Preacher. While we may do up a few of our leftover hamburgers and hotdogs from last time, our "main course" this time will be subs. We'll need some help with set-up and food preparation - and a hand from everybody putting things away afterwards. Bring your lawn chair and a side dish, salad or dessert and join the festivities!
(p.s. I could use some help with the cooking! Patrice)
We're looking for some help with our Saturday service
We're coming up on the one-year anniversary of our Saturday service at Trinity - and by every measure, it has been a success. That said, we are always looking for "new faces" to offer various aspects of the service so we don't have to rely on the same small group each week (grateful as I am for their service!). If you can help in any of the following ways, be in touch with me:
- A Lector for the scripture passages each week (they're the same as Sunday's readings the next day).
- An Intercessor to lead the Prayers of the People.
- Ideally, it would also be nice to have a second Eucharistic Minister to bear with the cup the weeks Ginnie-Lee can't be here.
I'd be more than happy to train new persons from among those who attend these services to serve in these various roles. Any new Eucharistic Ministers would need to be licensed by the diocese, but the process for becoming licensed is not difficult.
Many thanks - and do come join us some Saturday. It's a quiet, relaxed service, and the folks who come seem to enjoy it.

Back-to-School supply drive
The Hampton Community Coalition (HCC) is now collecting back to school supplies for children in need in Hampton's K-8 schools. This is the 14th year that it is being held in Hobbs House. Donations may be left in the "School Supplies" box in the Narthex at Trinity, or Nita will gladly accept them at her office, from 9-2, Monday-Friday. Thank you for your unswerving support of Hampton's vulnerable citizens.
Safe Church Training
Safe Church training now consists of two parts: a two-hour online course and a three-hour class.
Free online training using the curriculum "Safeguarding Our Children" is now available for use by congregations in this diocese. Each congregation has been assigned their safe church minister who can provide trainees with a unique ID and password they will need to access the program. Because the program uses video clips, broadband Internet access is essential. Completion of online training is required in order to attend the follow up in person 3 hour training session.
Refresher Training is required every 3 years. Anyone in need of refresher training will take the new Initial Safe Church Training.
The next three-hour class will be held from 8:30am - noon Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Christ Church, Exeter. If you would like to attend the Exeter class to fulfill your Safe Church training, please contact your Safe Church minister:
