Healing ministry

Each month, both of our churches offer the Laying on of Hands with Anointing for Healing.

At Christ Church, this occurs at the conclusion of the Eucharist on the first Sunday of the month. We will hold the next healing liturgy at at Christ Church on Sunday, July 6th.

At Trinity Church, it is an integral part of the Saturday evening liturgy the third weekend of the month. The next healing liturgy at Trinity Church will be on Saturday, July 19th.

 From the Vicar...

Some 70-year-old - and still relevant - thoughts on liberty

In his book, The Covenanted Self (Fortress Press, 1999), Walter Brueggemann quotes a portion of a speech offered by New York City judge Learned Hand. Judge Hand spoke at an annual festival in Central Park for the swearing in of 150,000 naturalized citizens on May 21, 1944. His comments bear repeating as we near our nation's celebration of July 4.

"The spirit of liberty is the spirit which is not too sure it is right; the spirit of liberty is the spirit which seeks to understand the merits of other men and women; the spirit of liberty is the spirit which weights their interests alongside its own without bias; the spirit of liberty remembers that not even a sparrow falls to earth unheeded. The spirit of liberty is the spirit of Him who, nearly two thousand years ago, taught [humanity] that lesson it has never learned, but has never quite forgotten, that there may be a kingdom where the least shall be heard and considered side by side with the greatest."

May the blessings of our Creator be upon each of us, our nation, and "this fragile earth, our island home," this Independence Day and always.

 Fr. Chip

Time and Talent

Thank you to everyone who responded to our June Time and Talent survey. We have lots of new names to give our various chairs - and a good number of people who indicated a continuing interest in a ministry they had already been fulfilling.

That said, we have come up short in a couple of areas, and I'd like to see if we can fill them:

At Christ Church, we could really use some more people to host coffee hour and make themselves available, even if only once a quarter, to vacuum, dust, and otherwise tidy up the church. Also, with a fall stewardship campaign about to get underway, we could use at least two to three committee members for that team.

At Trinity Church, we are in need of a new E-News editor now that Bob Gallagher is beginning an interim ministry in Massachusetts. Cleaning and maintenance are also needs - as is Trinity's stewardship team, for which only one person has signed up so far.

If you can help in any of these ways, please be in touch with Nita or Fr. Chip. And, again, thanks to everyone who so generously volunteered their time and talent!

Our Shared Ministry Cycle of Prayer this week and next

Each week, in both of our churches, we pray for one ministry we share and one or two households in each church. About once every six weeks, we will instead use the Shared Ministry Collect we prayed throughout the opening months of our Shared Ministry.

In our prayers the next two weeks, we give God thanks for...

July 6

The E-News Team; Peter Monte of Christ Church;  Mike Spinelli and Ned & Bobbie Stead of Trinity Church

July 13

We will use the Collect for our Shared Ministry as the concluding collect at the Prayers of the People

Our next outdoor service and cookout...

Now it's Christ Church's turn to host

graphic-bbq-dad.jpg

After a great kickoff to the summer season on June 29th at Trinity, now it's Christ Church's turn to host. On Sunday, July 13, Christ Church will host an outdoor Eucharist and cookout (members of both churches welcome). The service will be at 10:30 a.m. in the shaded rear courtyard of the church. The cookout will follow on the lawn. Bring your lawn chair and a side dish or dessert to share. Hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages will be provided. Please RSVP indicating how many from your household are coming to trinity55ad@gmail.com . This will help our food and set-up crews in their planning. Oh, and as for a rain date...we won't need one. It never rains on our cookouts! (If, ahem, it does, we'll come inside.)

For those of you who cannot (or prefer not) to come to the outdoor service, there will be a brief celebration of the Holy Eucharist at Trinity Church at the usual 8:45.

Daily Meditation

 The Rt. Rev. Steven Charleston
How beautiful you are, O God, in all the places I find you. I see you in the early morning, when the birds first wake the sun, waiting patiently for me in the garden, as fresh and green as new life can be. I watch you gather up your billowing skirts in clouds of gray and black, flashing out streamers of light like ribbons from your hair. I meet you in the twilight, walking so softly beneath the trees, a quiet whisper of your breath to move the leaves along the path. How beautiful you are, in all the ways I see you, in every season and every hour. Let me see you always, O God, for as long as I live, as though it were for the very first time.
