Camping Committee Update
Chairman - Dwight Waldorf  513-505-1553
The 2015 summer camp season is almost here! The WHH district is well represented with Troops  being signed up for camp.  Of the 35 troops in the district, 11 troops will be traveling to out of council camps.  19 troops will be camping at our own camp Friedlander.  If your Troop has not yet made or shared summer camp plans, please contact District Camping Chair, Dwight Waldorf. This season appears to be one of the best seasons in recent memory!

Cub scout history will be made this summer with an all new Cub program featuring STEM, Outdoor Masters , and Sports & Games.  It's still not to late to sign up for one of the six community camps and/or our very own Cub World.  For more  info and registration please visit www.danbeard.org/cubcamp.

ROSTER CHECKS

At the end of summer, the Commissioner staff and Membership team typically likes to review unit rosters to ensure that every Scout is properly registered in the BSA prior to attending summer camp programs. Often, a Scout may be added after charter renewal, spring recruiting or Webelos Crossovers, but BSA applications might accidently not make it to the Scout Achievement Center. Please send your groups roster and/or submit any youth applications you have in hand by Monday, June 22nd to your Unit Commissioner, Membership Chair John Hughes or Travis McCormick.

FALL RECRUITMENT OVERVIEW AND KICKOFF
In just a couple short months, summer camps will wrap up and school will begin. The start of the school year also means, Scout groups throughout the area will be reaching out to new families to participate! Dan Beard Council will make a few tweaks to the recruitment campaign season compared to past years to help unit leaders and membership committee members by offering a simplified, and more consistent method of recruitment. One of these changes would be for each Pack/School/Community to plan and host a sign-up event the week of August 31-September 4th. We can more effectively develop and implement a large scale marketing campaign focused on recruitment during this one-week time period. The time period also works for the vast majority of school districts and gets Scouts registered right at the beginning of the school year, so families can get started right away rather than waiting a month or more into the Scouting year.

We invite membership/recruitment chairs and/or leaders from each Scouting unit to attend the Join Scouting Kickoff at the LDS Church on North Bend Road on Wednesday, July 22nd at 6:30pm. Make sure your group is represented to get the latest information, plan appropriately, learn best practices and distribute recruitment materials.

SHOOTING SPORTS TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

For more info, contact DBC Shooting Sports Committee Chair, Tony Scovanner.
If you missed the June Roundtable, you missed a presentation by the Dan Beard Council Shooting Sports Committee about a variety of training opportunities for Scouting volunteers throughout the year. One opportunity coming up which was highly recommended and arguably the greatest need is the BB Gun and Archery course for Cub Scouts. Next course is
August 22nd 2015. Click here for course details and registration. This is a great course for Cub parents and leaders who would like to use the ranges on Pack camping trips as well as required at district and council events like Cub-O-Ree, Tiger Treks, Spring into Camping, etc.\

Words to Live By
Travis McCormick, District Director
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
- Henry David Thoreau, from Walden
