Building a Sustainable and Reliable Water Infrastructure Supply for Southern California's Future
In response to the long-term adverse effects of today's historic drought on our communities, economy, and environment,
Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is exploring the potential of a water purification project to beneficially reuse water currently discharged to the Pacific Ocean for recharge of regional groundwater basins. Under a partnership with the Sanitation Districts of LA County, Metropolitan would build a new purification plant and distribution lines to groundwater basins in Los Angeles and Orange counties. Diversifying the region's water supply sources, advancing conservation and maintaining imported supplies are all part of Metropolitan's long-term Integrated Water Resources Plan. To get answers, come to the AAa/e Student Networking Event! Young professionals and leaders in the AEC industry will be on hand to answer these and other burning questions you may have. We'll also be facilitating a "What's my Communication Style?" exercise to help you be more effective in interviews and meetings. This event is FREE for student and recent graduate members of AAa/e. An AAa/e member since 2003, JCE Structural Engineering Group Inc. is an award-winning, certified MBE, DBE and SBE that was established in November 2000. JCE has successfully completed numerous New and Seismic Retrofit projects ranging from mid to high-rise buildings. Their collaborative approach and innovative design allows them to understand the client's needs to propose the most cost effective structural system for each specific project. They have effectively embraced the use of BIM, Sustainable Design Practices, Design-Build and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).
 JCE founder Juan Carlos Esquivel, M.S., S.E., LEED AP, DBIA has over 32 years of experience and has successfully completed numerous new projects in Commercial, Industrial, Educational, Healthcare, Hospitality and Governmental Sectors. He has also executed numerous Seismic Rehabilitation Projects. Mr. Esquivel has done extensive research on Earthquake Engineering and Structural/Seismic Analysis through post-graduate specialization courses in Yugoslavia, Mexico, Spain and Japan. He lectures and publishes nationally and internationally on the subject of Earthquake and Structural Engineering and has participated in numerous committees associated with the A/E/C industry.

This year, the AAa/e Foundation is offering scholarship awards in six categories:
1) High School Students Scholarship
2) Community College Students Scholarship
3) Undergraduate Students Scholarship
4) Post-Graduate Students Scholarship
5) Student Loan Support Grant for Recent Graduates
6) University/College Program Grant
Past recipients include students from Cal Poly Pomona, USC, SCI-Arc, Woodbury University, and UCLA to name a few. At the 2015 Annual Awards Banquet, 5 recipients received a total of $20,000.
