Dear fellow Members, Sponsors and Supporters of AAa/e,

I am truly honored to serve as AAa/e's 2016 President. This year I will continue moving our organization forward through focused attention in the following areas of our 2015 Strategic Plan: 1) Promote the highest levels of professional development amongst AAa/e members; 2) Provide effective networking opportunities for members to build strong professional relationships in the AEC industry; 3) Optimize outreach opportunities from major government agencies; 4) Maximize member involvement in leadership roles; and 5) Enhance our professional services and contributions to our communities.
 
We also have a renewed focus in 2016 for increased involvement and collaboration with our members. We have a number of working Committees within the organization that is looking for members to get involved and provide input, including: Awards Banquet, Communications, Membership, Professional Development, and Programs. Come to our 2016 kickoff event is our Annual Membership Appreciation Night on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Japanese American Cultural Community Center. I look forward to hopefully seeing you there and hearing more about how the AAa/e Association can better serve you!

Founded in 1960, NAC Architecture is a full-service architectural firm that has served the Los Angeles area for more than 25 years. Helena Jubany, FAIA, LEED AP, CASp is the Vice President and Managing Principal of NAC Architecture.  Her 30-year career has been dedicated to design excellence in the public realm, and she is best known for her work with educational and public projects. Having lived and worked in South America and Asia, as well as the United States, Helena's experiences impart an international flavor to her work and provide her with an understanding of the traditions and customs of many of the cultures which are represented in the diverse make-up of Southern California.  She is a long-time AAa/e member and former Board Member President.  Thank you, Helena, for your steadfast support of AAa/e!

Help raise AAa/e scholarship funds at the L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Run, February 20, 2016 
The running community recognizes the "Firecracker Run" as one of the best organized running and cycling events in the nation.  Teams can compete in Kiddy Runs, 5k/10k Runs, and 20- /30-mile Bike Rides.  Since its inception 36 years ago, the L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Run Committee has contributed over $500,000 to local elementary schools and non-profit community organizations, including Asian American Tutorial, Central City Action Committee, Chinatown Senior Citizens Service Center, Friends of the Chinatown Library, and LA Chinatown Teen Post.  Now, as a proud affiliate of the Firecracker Run, the AAa/e Foundation, our scholarship fundraising arm, stands to raise $7 towards our Foundation Scholarships Fund for each event participant who registers on the AAa/e team.

Caltrans Small Business Council to set goals for 2016 
  • El Ni�o is upon us! Caltrans moves at warp speed to get mudslide cleanup and roadway repairs underway, therefore, get your firm SBE, DBE, and DVBE certified and in the Caltrans contractor/vendor database ASAP!
  • SBE A/E Mentoring Program aims to increase small A/E business participation in So. Cal. transportation projects. The next Calmentor program will launch Spring 2016, where SBE proteg�s will be paired with Prime contractor mentors.
