Southern California Transportation Luncheon
Segue to the future! - Thursday, July 16, 2015, 11:30am - 1:30pm, CITY CLUB

With a friendly, sunny climate and the richness of diverse cultures, it is no wonder that Southern California boasts a population of over 22 million people.  The majority of people use private transportation but with increasing traffic congestion and the overcrowding of our roadways, Southern Californians are depending on our local agencies for remedies to improve the various means of transportation and our quality of life.  AAa/e is proud to present this forum as a segue way to the future of capital projects in transportation.  Join us to learn about upcoming opportunities for the AEC community to improve our future transportation infrastructure.

Rose Casey, PE, OCTA's Director of Highway Programs, is responsible for developing and delivering major freeway, rail and highway projects.  Rose's current capital development program includes 43 major, high profile projects with accelerated delivery schedules, valued at nearly $5 billion and funded by Measure M2, Proposition 1B and other State, Federal and local funding sources.  She works in partnership with many other public agencies involved in transportation development, and oversees numerous teams of private consultants and contractors who help deliver the projects.  AAa/e has also invited the Directors of Riverside Transit Agency and OmniTrans for their participation. Don't miss out on this exclusive networking opportunity!

Multifamily Housing leaders give advice
AAa/e members and guests gain sage advice and perspectives on "Advancing your Career"

On June 4th, emerging professionals and senior AEC leaders alike gathered at LA County Department of Public Works for our Spring 2015 Masters Series: Perspectives from Multifamily Housing Leaders.  Members and guest networked and heard discerning advice on career advancement in the thriving Multifamily Housing market sector from: Winston Chang, AIA, LEED AP, Principal, TCA Architects; Sheri L. Bonstelle, RA, Esq., Partner, JMBM; and Joseph Didone, Vice President, Bernards.  In a very frank and informal manner, each of these role models shared their personal stories, opportunities they encountered, decisions they made, actions they took, and challenges they overcame to ascend in their careers.  Memorable words of wisdom included: "When an opportunity comes, you better grab it!"; "If you start at a small firm, you will learn how to do everything"; "Get on a jobsite and absorb every piece of knowledge you can"; "You gotta be nice to everyone - don't burn bridges!"; and "The AEC industry can get crazy, so always have fun, and laugh!"  AAa/e Board Member Sonnet Hui, Executive Project Director of Hazens Group US, moderated this inspirational panel discussion.  AAa/e greatly appreciates the panelists' valuable advice and taking the time to network with attendees during the reception.  Special thanks to our event sponsors Breen Engineering and Bernards for their generous support.  We would also like to thank LA County's Vince Yu for hosting our event for us at DPW.  Stay tuned for our 2016 Masters Series!
