CHSR Project - BAC Rep Update
Public Policy & Government Affairs Committee Chair Linden Nishinaga reports the latest on California High Speed Rail

1. On January 6, 2015, Linden attended the official CHSRA Groundbreaking Ceremony in Fresno. This event marked progress toward modernizing California's transportation infrastructure. Many hundreds of supporters and government, student, community, transportation, business and labor leaders attended to break ground on the nation's first high speed rail project.

2. The Authority has identified Dragados/Flatiron/Shimmick as the apparent best value team for the civil design-build contract for Construction Package 2-3 (CP-2/3), which is the next 65 mile segment from Fresno to North of Bakersfield.

3. As the Project transitions from preliminary design and planning to delivery, the Authority has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) regarding their upcoming Rail Delivery Partner (RDP) procurement, which will accelerate construction to concurrent project sections and help deliver high speed rail to Californians sooner. The deadline for SOQ submittals is March 23, 2015.

4. The stated overall Project goal is for 30% SBE participation. CA small business certification is a pre-requisite to getting involved in the Project as a CA-defined SBE. Be sure to take advantage of free Authority-sponsored SBE certification workshops. The most recent one was held on February 4 in Visalia. The next workshop is on February 27 in Bakersfield.

5. Linden will attend the BAC Meeting in Sacramento on February 19. There will be an opening planning session to go along with the regular BAC meetings.
