Students and Grads learn to network!
AAa/e inaugurates Student & Recent Grad Member Networking Event

On Thursday, October 23rd, 2014, the AAa/e Foundation and Association jointly hosted the first ever Student & Recent Grad Member Networking Event. Over 30 students and recent graduates and 10 professional members gathered at Arup's Marina Del Rey office for an evening of structured networking and professional development. In order to help young attendees be more effective in interviews and meetings, Kimberly Hayashi, Adjunct Professor of Organizational Leadership at Chapman University, facilitated a "What's my Communication Style?" exercise. Each participant came up with his/her own 30-second elevator pitch and delivered it to our professional members for constructive feedback. In addition, a number of AAa/e's current younger professional members from Gensler, Glumac, iFactor, and Brandow & Johnston shared their insight and experiences with transitioning from graduation to the working world. AAa/e received tremendous positive feedback on this mentoring event. Big thanks to Arup for hosting. Stay tuned for more professional development programs in 2015!

CHSR Project - BAC Rep Update
PP&GA Committee Chair Linden Nishinaga reports the latest on the California High Speed Rail Project

Based on his attendances at both the Professional Services Committee (PSC) and Business Advisory Council (BAC) meetings in Sacramento on October 16, 2014, Linden Nishinaga provides the following report:

  1. The PSC seeks that the Authority duly inform and debrief successful and unsuccessful proposal subs respectively along with the primes who're involved in any and all Project procurement tenders.
  2. Northern CA Caltrain HSR Electrification - It was learned that Caltrain is doing the A&E work in-house. Therefore the established 30% SBE goal on this Northern California "book end" "blended" Project portion may not be applicable.
  3. Due to new procedures imposed by the Authority, the PSC is currently updating and resubmitting many of its previously issued Committee Requests via current PSC Chair Arvin Chaudhari.
  4. The PSC discussed and strategized for the need for more Authority technical support personnel at its meetings. These personnel should include Authority's regional directors and others with Project technical knowledge.
  5. Authority issued a CHSRA look-ahead procurement report spreadsheet. Linden will forward this report to anyone interested.
Next BAC Meeting will be held on December 11, 2014 in Sacramento.
