2014 Scholarship applications deadline extended!
AAa/e Foundation set to award thousands of dollars to AAa/e student members
 
Each year, the AAa/e Foundation recognizes the talent of AAa/e student members and young professionals who have demonstrated a measurable level of involvement and service to the Asian-Pacific Islander community, as well as higher education programs who are bridging the gap between U.S. students and Asia.  At the 2013 Annual Awards Banquet in October, a grand total of $21,500 in scholarships was awarded!

 

This year, the Foundation is offering scholarships to the following categories:

1. High School Students

2. Community College Students

3. Undergraduate Students

4. Post Graduate Students

5. Emerging professionals for student debt reduction

6. College and University Programs that build bridges between American students and Asia

 

Past recipients include students from Cal Poly Pomona, USC, SCI-Arc, Woodbury University, and UCLA to name a few.  Applications must be postmarked on or before Monday, June 30, 2014.  Winners will be announced September 2, 2014.  If you have any questions, please contact AAa/e Foundation President, Susan Chau at 213.228.8234, or

AAa/e raises thousands for scholarships       

Our 2014 Annual Fundraiser: networking for a great cause!       


This year's 2014 Annual Scholarship Fundraiser was a huge success, surpassing last year's Fundraiser, which helped raise over $21,000 in scholarships!   With a record breaking 41 sponsors, our ever-popular wine tasting event drew a lively crowd.  Networking opportunities were abundant as guests sipped on select wines and enjoyed a delicious buffet.  Lilly Shraibati, MWD Water System Operations and Section Manager, made opening remarks.  Past scholarship recipient Karen Tang spoke about how the AAa/e Foundation Scholarship has helped her.  Lucky attendees also won a variety of raffle prizes, including Dodger tickets, licensed seats of Bluebeam software, an annual membership to the Chinese American Museum and an annual AAa/e membership.   Special thanks to our very generous sponsors, who have helped us raise thousands of dollars for our 2014 scholarship winners: AHBE Landscape Architects, Anil Verma Associates, ARC Document Services, ARCADIS, Arup, Bluebeam, Brandow & Johnston, Inc., CH2M Hill, Collins Collins Muir + Stewart, David Ke Design Collaborative, Degenkolb, Dealy, Benton & Associates, Englekirk Structural Engineers, FPL and Associates, Gensler, Glumac, Gruen Associates, HDR, I Factor, Jacobs Engineering, Louis Berger, John A. The State of the Union: LA District USACE

Colloton to learn about The State of Union for the Los Angeles District of the US Army Corps of Engineers.  At our luncheon, Col Colloton will provide an overview of upcoming infrastructure projects for "The Four Rs": Road, Railways, Runways, and River!  You will learn about the USACE's projected outlook for funding, and the future contracting opportunities for the AEC community.

In May 2014, Steinberg announced partner David Hart its new president, assuming the leadership from current president Rob Steinberg, FAIA, whose father Goodwin Steinberg, FAIA, founded the company in the Silicon Valley in 1953. Higher Education luncheon a success!
AAa/e members and guests network with Higher Ed Leaders  

On Thursday, May 22 at the DoubleTree in Little Tokyo, our luncheon guests got to network with UCLA Campus Architect Jeff Averill; CSULA Interim VP for Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction Warren Jacobs; and Rancho Santiago CCD Assistant Vice Chancellor Carri Matsumoto. These higher education leaders shared with us the upcoming projects that will shape our built environment and continue fueling the Southern California AEC industry.
