AAa/e Kicks off  Luncheon Program

Attendees gather at the Biltmore to hear about the ACA and Healthcare

On Thursday, February 20, 2014 AAa/e members and guests gathered at The Millennium Biltmore Hotel to hear about the impacts of the Affordable Care Act on the healthcare industry. Chris Durkee of KCS West moderated this insightful panel discussion as attendees learned about near-future opportunities for the AEC industry as healthcare providers upgrade and renovate their facilities to meet the demands of the newly insured and maintain high level of services for their patients. Special thanks to Ronald Smith - Vice President, Kaiser Permanente National Facilities Services; and Zeke Triana - Director of Facilities Planning Design & Construction, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center; for sharing their services and facilities strategies with us. We appreciate the generous support of Premier Sponsor Turner and Event Sponsors DPR Construction, Martin & Associates, Syska Hennessey, and KCS West. Many thanks to all who planned, participated, and attended this hugely successful event!

CHSR Project - BAC Rep Update

Public Policy & Government Affairs Committee Chair Linden Nishinaga reports the latest on California High Speed Rail

California High Speed Rail's second civil design-build CP-2/3 package entails a 60-mile segment between Fresno and the Tulare-Kern County Line. Via RFQ HSR 13-57 the CHSRA (Authority) received SOQs from five firm teams from which they have shortlisted all five to move on to the RFP tender stage. The firm teams selected so far are in alphabetical order: California Rail Builders; Dragados/Flatiron/Shimmick; Golden State Rail Partnership; Skanska-Ames, a Joint Venture; and Tutor Perini/Zachary/Parsons, a Joint Venture.

Similar to CP-1, the tasks for CP-2/3 may include, but are not limited to, the design and construction of: the demolition and clearance of R/W, grading, drainage, subsurface investigation, geotechnical engineering and seismology, bridges, culverts, trenches and tunnels, utility relocations, aerial structures, and grade separations.

In connection with this, the Authority is hosting an Industry Forum and Pre-Bid Conference on April 8, 2014 in Visalia, CA. This event will provide an opportunity for interested small businesses to meet with the qualified firms eligible to submit proposals for the design-build RFP for Construction Package 2/3 (CP-2/3).
