April 26, 2016
Dear Friends,
PGCPS is hosting a series of very important meetings over the next two weeks. The first is on Wednesday, April 27, at 6:30pm at Northwestern High School. Last August I hosted a meeting featuring the PGCPS Department of Capital Programs to share with our community the results of the Master Plan Support Project. On May 12, the Board of Education will make important decisions about school infrastructure. Please attend the meeting on April 27, May 3 or May 5 to make your voice heard before those decisions are made.
During these meetings, the PGCPS Department of Capital Programs will review the school-by-school schedule for renovating and replacing more than 133 schools; constructing new schools; reorganizing sixth grade to middle schools; boundary changes; and planning studies to consider consolidations and other programs. Learn more here.
Numerous County agencies, utility providers, and more hosted tables from 6:30-7:15pm and I was pleased to update the attendees on my work over the past year, many great things happening in District 3 and across the County, and the FY2017 budget. Thank you for inviting your friends and neighbors, too.
Thank you to Larry Jackson for taking the terrific group photo below. I attended the funeral of Prince George's County Fire Department Firefighter/Medic John Ulmschneider earlier that afternoon before the Town Hall and wanted to demonstrate our community support for our firefighters and all of our first responders. Prince George's County District 3 residents stand with our entire public safety community during what has been an extremely difficult month.
The County Council is currently reviewing the budget and holding hearings with agencies. We will continue to work on the budget through May, with April and early May being the most intense time for budget discussions. This link contains links to the proposed budget and more information about the process, including the date each committee work session and public hearing. Please attend one of our Budget Public Hearings on Thursday, May 5 or Tuesday, May 10, at 7pm in the Council Hearing Room, 14741 Gov. Oden Bowie Drive to share your priorities with us.
The Maryland Primary Election is today and polls are open until 8pm. We have an entirely new voting system this year--we've gone back to paper ballots. Learn more about the new voting system or find your polling place. Your vote matters!
