Have you ever seen a pig in a canoe?

Young audiences ages 4-10 will have the opportunity to meet the Greedy Frog, who swallowed all the water in the world; Water Droplet's funny adventures as he moves through water phases; shadowy creatures of The Deep; and of course seven adorable pigs as they travel down Manitoba's Red River.

Normally performed only for schools and festivals, Pigs in a Canoe and Other Watery Stories will be performed both in English and in French (not recommended for early French learners) on March 7th in conjunction with the International Festival of Animated Objects.

Bilingual puppeteer Alice Nelson will perform  Pigs in a Canoe and Other Watery Stories in English on Saturday March 7th at 11am and Petits Cochons dans un Canot in French on Saturday March 7th at 2pm.

Discovering the World of Puppets

And the winner is . . .

With the Oscars around the corner, I wondered if any puppets (or movies with puppets) had won any awards.  In 2005, Wallace and Gromit won for best animation.  Check out this fascinating video about how some of the puppets were made!

This year The Boxtrolls is nominated for best animation - we shall see who the winner is.

I'm sure there are many more incredible puppets that have won awards in the animation and short films categories - if you know of any, please email sandra.neill@shaw.ca
