New Years Puppet
 Happy 2015! from the
 People and Puppets at
WP Puppet Theatre

Immense thanks to all people behind the scenes, including:

Our Board of Directors:

Erin P: Erin joined WP Puppet Theatre Board in 2014 and is passionate about theatre and youth issues.  It's a pleasure to work with a nonprofit organization committed to implementing its strategic plan.

Adi: A guy good with numbers still struggling to use his "right" side of the brain.

Erin L: My WP memory this year is seeing PIGS at the Mayors Expo with my daughter. It was her first puppet show and she sat there in complete awe and joy. I hope we will continue to share a love of puppetry and theatre together as the years pass! I have proudly served the WP Puppet Theatre Board for 8 years.

Trevor: It's my first year on the board, and the best thing for me this year has been the warmth and acceptance of the other board members. I work with CCVO, and I'm truly excited for the bright future for WPTS in 2015 and beyond.

Our valued contractors:

Alice (puppeteer): As a puppeteer in training for Pigs In A Canoe, Wendy invited me to watch the show at an elementary school. Being in the audience, I couldn't help but notice the children's reactions. They were mesmerized by the puppets; "ooooing" and "ahhhing" at the silver frozen ice and shouting out the names of the shadow puppet creatures.  It's so delightful to watch children believing in magic. It was even more delightful to watch the teacher beside me howling with laughter, as Wendy stuffed the seven pigs in the canoe.  I was reminded how important it is for all of us, young and old, to have some magic in our lives.
Alice is a local actor, clown, improvisor, playwright and currently, a puppeteer-in-training for Pigs in a Canoe and Petits Cochons dans un Canot.

Giselle (French language coach):

I re-entered the theatre by the stage door, as it were, when I translated into French one play for adults and, for WPTS, the fun and instructive children play Pigs in a Canoe, the latter, introducing me to the otherness of puppetry, which enthralled me enough that I included shadowgraphy scenes in a short story about mountain climbing.

In the solitude that I treasure, I write fiction and non-fiction in French and in English, and I fuse both languages in a same text to create rhythm and new meanings; working in the theatre reactivates the pleasure of collaboration, which puts a different shine on language, written and spoken. website

Kristin (Graphic Design): This year we attempted to make a pigfish head with teeth and a working jawline. I'll never forget my fiancé walking past and saying "wow those teeth are...scary". I'm a mom, animal wrangler and designer who fell into the wonderful world of puppetry I never knew existed until meeting Wendy - it's been a great ride.

Lori (Fundraising): Lori's work and volunteer commitments have combined her interest in Arts, Technology, Education, Disability and Community Development with her interests in modified forms of communication, human interaction and learning, and social roles within communities.

Sandra (Marketing and Communications):
I'm excited to join WP Puppet Theatre as the marketing & communications coordinator and brings her love of the arts and creativity to the position.  In the last year, my experience with puppets consists mainly with using socks to engage with her six year old son in a fun and silly way as well as seeing the performance of Pigs in a Canoe.  I am excited to learn more about puppetry and all the ways it can facilitate learning, social issues, and therapy.

Wendy Passmore-Godfrey (Artistic Director): Puppet high-points of the year? Among, many... Amazing puppet theatre at Le Trois Jours de Casteliers last March. http://casteliers.ca/ . I'm a performer, visual artist, writer, traveller, learner!

Our Puppet Power 2016 committee:

Deb: my year...2014 for me is best summarized using the metaphor of Sandwich. There were multiple layers of being and doing including participating in WP Puppet Theatre's Collective Creative workshop to "create a puppet play in 8 hours". This year also marked the realization I must accept the role of Sandwich between my children and my parents as well. Intergenerational focus is poignantly relevant and I look forward to what puppetry offers the layers of family care in this way.
As an internet researcher and Master Curiousitor, I found my way to WPTS six or so years ago out of parenting-interest for my children as well
I am currently pursuing studies in expressive art therapy and look forward to incorporating puppetry as a highly valuable mode of creative communication for those where verbalization is suppressed or challenged, where conveyance of information is uncomfortable, or where interaction or circumstance would benefit from the power of Buffer (a puppet name I just thought of!).

Gaye: I spent my time on the desk at Puppet Power 2013 where I had a great opportunity to meet all the exciting presenters and participants. I have been retired from teaching for a long time but kept my association with the Fine Arts Council, giving me the opportunity to stay in touch with artists/teachers in the classroom and to get involved with WPPuppets.

Jan: a visual artist/poet who has a BIG soft spot for WP and puppets
