 It's

MORE than just making Puppets

There are many, many learning discoveries in a Puppet Art Residency, some that are apparent immediately, and some that probably won't be realized for years. Here's some of what I see the students experiencing:

  1. Practicing using scissors.
  2. Learning to fold paper in order to make two of something.
  3. Finding courage to perform.
  4. Using teamwork with other students, i.e.: please pass the glue
  5. Are proud of their own knowledge to add to the conversation i.e.: the dinosaur experts in Kindergarten
  6. Exploring new art mediums and techniques; paper mache, sharpies on plastic, neon under black light, hot glue guns, bench hooks and back saws.
  7. Confirming learning about concepts; light and shadow, geometry, camouflage, symmetry, virtues, predators, totem animals, endangered habitats, bee waggles, quotation marks.
  8. Feeling accomplishment at following multistep processes,
  9. Exploring awareness of their identities and belonging,
  10. Exhibiting eagerness to share their puppet success with their families.

AND

Having lots of laughter and fun.

"How do mosquitoes get to school?" "On a school Buzzzz"

(Although I was corrected by an ESL student who, proud of his grasp of English, said "no, no it's school BUS"!)

Great time at Mayors Environment Expo 2014

We were proud to be part of this great event with 10 performances of "Pigs in a Canoe and Other Watery Stories". Greedy Frog also popped into the Alberta Children's Hospital. One adult viewer said "he was impressed by the level of detail the show went into about water, without it being complicated and how totally child - friendly it was".
