Dallas Wind Symphony to perform at Liberty Fest May 28

FARMERS BRANCH ~ The summer kicks off in fine fashion on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, May 28, when Liberty Fest presents Stars & Strings, featuring the Dallas Wind Symphony in a concert under the stars at the Farmers Branch Historical Park.
   Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free. The event will also feature a free KidZone, tours of historic structures, concessions available for purchase and pre-ordered picnic baskets from Central Market.
   A fireworks finale will complete the evening after dark. For more info visit fbspecialevents.com.

Frog Pond kicks off summer season this Saturday

FARMERS BRANCH ~ For kids of all ages, the opportunity to jump in and cool down at the Frog Pond will officially kick off the summer season on Saturday, May 28 from Noon to 6 p.m.
   With season passes available, lower pricing is offered for residents as well as special pricing for Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD employees and those who work in Farmers Branch. Passes for individual residents are $50, and $130 for resident families. Non resident pricing is $80 for individuals and $210 for families.
   The Frog Pond, which will remain open through Labor Day, features a slide tower, lazy river, lagoon pool and more. Facility hours will be Monday thru Friday Noon to 8 p.m. and weekends Noon to 6 p.m.

Citizen Bond Committee asks
'What can Farmers Branch do for you?'

FARMERS BRANCH ~ In asking residents for input and feedback on potential issues to be included in a future bond election, the City Council-approved Citizen Bond Committee is posing a single question - What can Farmers Branch do for you and your family to help make Farmers Branch an even better place to live, work and play?
   The committee is asking residents to answer the question via several response options:
  • Log on at farmersbranchtx.gov/bond to fill out a returnable form
  • Mail ideas to or stop by City Hall at 13000 William Dodson Parkway, Farmers Branch, TX 75234
  • Call 972.919.1410 and leave a message

   The Citizen Bond Committee requests that residents please submit their ideas by Thursday, June 30.

Planning meeting for JFB Nature Preserve set tonight at Rec Center
 
FARMERS BRANCH ~ Anyone interested in helping to plan the future of the John F. Burke Nature Preserve is encouraged to attend a Master Planning Meeting on Wednesday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center.
   The master planning / landscape architectural firm Dunaway and 
Associates will be on hand seeking community input and ideas for the 108-acre preserve.
   Named after former Farmers Branch City Manager and longtime Parks and Recreation Director John F. Burke, the preserve is a joint venture between the City of Farmers Branch, the Valwood Improvement District and the North Texas Tollway Authority.
   Nestled along the Elm Fork of the Trinity River on the western border of Farmers Branch, the preserve features a variety of terrain, marked trails and a picnic area.
Most City offices to close for holiday

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Most City offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
   Exceptions will be the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Historical Park open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
   Also, the Margaret Young Natatorium will be open from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. while the Frog Pond will continue its opening weekend that day from 12 Noon until 6 p.m.
   In a departure from previous years, there will be regular garbage and recycling pickup on Memorial Day.
Senior Advisory Board sponsoring Safety and Security Fair June 4

FARMERS BRANCH ~ The Senior Center, located at 14055 Dennis Lane, will be hosting a Safety and Security Fair on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
   The event is sponsored by the Senior Advisory Board, and people of all ages are invited to learn valuable ways to protect themselves, their homes and their assets as they age.
   This is a great opportunity for seniors and their families to visit a variety of service providers, ask questions and explore available community resources.

Summer Reading Club starts with fun in the sun June 4

FARMERS BRANCH ~ This year's theme for the Summer Reading Club is 'On Your Mark, Get Set, Play!' and begins with outdoor fun at the Manske Library on June 4 at 10 a.m.
   Games will be on the schedule and include kids' favorites three-legged race, tug-of-war and more. Children will also have the opportunity to signup for their Summer Reading logs in order to win prizes throughout the summer.

The Firehouse Theatre brings musical The Fantastiks to the stage June 2

FARMERS BRANCH ~ This allegorical love story performed to music by Harvey Schmidt and with lyrics by Tom Jones will be onstage at the Firehouse Theatre June 2 - 19.
   The musical will take listeners on a journey of love, deception, loss and sweethearts reunited.

Manske Library offers outdoor family movie fun June 4

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Everyone is invited to grab a blanket or a chair and enjoy a movie under the stars at the Manske Library amphitheatre on Saturday, June 4 starting at 8:30 p.m.
   The event will feature The Karate Kid, the 1984 movie that has kept audiences captivated for over 30 years. This movie has a PG rating.

   Capping off National Police Week, select Farmers Branch Police officers received awards based on their performance, commendations and letters documenting service above and beyond the call. A selection committee reviewed the information multiple times throughout the year to determine potential candidates.
   Congratulations to the recipients of this year's awards: Officer of the Year - M. Dunn, Rookie of the Year - N. Chernyha and Supervisor of the Year - Sgt. R. Serna.
