TASTES & TUNES Canceled
Rain causes cancellation 
of Tastes & Tunes May 19

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Unfortunately, due to continuing rainfall and the chance of more bad weather, City officials have made the decision to 
cancel the Tastes & Tunes event set for Thursday, May 19.
   However, staff is working diligently to get the event rescheduled, and will post the information as soon as it becomes available.
   In the meantime, band selection for the other upcoming Tastes & Tunes events has been confirmed with the Beatles' tribute band, "Hard Night's Day" set to perform Thursday, June 16 and the Texas sounds of "Lone Star Attitude" on stage Thursday, July 21.

Reyes, Lynne elected to office as City Council members

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Following Council action to declare results official from the May 7 City Election, Terry Lynne was sworn in Tuesday night to his elected position as City Councilmember from District 4.
   Incumbent District 1 Councilmember Ana Reyes was re-elected without opposition but requested her inauguration be postponed to a later meeting.
   In the City Council District 1 election, Ana Reyes, running unopposed, received 50 votes. In the City Council District 4 election, Chuck Zubarik received 227 votes while Terry Lynne received 303 votes.

   This is Ms. Reyes second term in office while Mr. Lynne replaces the retiring District 4 Councilmember Kirk Connally.
   Members of the Farmers Branch City Council, along with the Mayor, are elected to two-year terms on a staggered basis with two positions up for election each year.
   Councilmembers are elected by the people of their geographic single member districts while the Mayor is elected at-large.

Coffee with a Cop coming Saturday at Old City Cafe

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Many of Farmers Branch's finest will be available for caffeine and conversation on Saturday, May 21 at the regular Coffee with a Cop opportunity for citizen interaction.
   This time, the recurring event will be hosted from 10 to 11 a.m. by the Old City Cafe, 12895 Josey Lane, Suite 128, in the southwest quadrant of the corner of Josey and Valley View Lanes.

Planning meeting for JFB Nature Preserve asks for input

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Anyone interested in helping to plan the future of the John F. Burke Nature Preserve is encouraged to attend a Master Planning Meeting on Wednesday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center.
   The master planning / landscape architectural firm Dunaway and Associates will be on hand seeking community input and ideas for the 108-acre preserve.
   Named after former Farmers Branch City Manager and longtime Parks and Recreation Director John F. Burke, the preserve is a joint venture between the City of Farmers Branch, the Valwood Improvement District and the North Texas Tollway Authority.
   Nestled along the Elm Fork of the Trinity River on the western border of Farmers Branch, the preserve features a variety of terrain, marked trails and a picnic area.

Dallas Wind Symphony to play Stars & Strings, May 28

FARMERS BRANCH ~ The summer kicks off in fine fashion on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, May 28, when Liberty Fest presents Stars & Strings, featuring the Dallas Wind Symphony in a concert under the stars at the Farmers Branch Historical Park.
   Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free. The event will also feature a free KidZone, tours of historic structures, concessions available for purchase and pre-ordered picnic baskets from Central Market.

Citizen Bond Committee asks
'What can Farmers Branch do for you?'

FARMERS BRANCH ~ In asking residents for input and feedback on potential issues to be included in a future bond election, the City Council-approved Citizen Bond Committee is posing a single question - What can Farmers Branch do for you and your family to help make Farmers Branch an even better place to live, work and play?
   The committee is asking residents to answer the question via several response options:
  • Log on at farmersbranchtx.gov/bond to fill out a returnable form
  • Mail to or stop by City Hall at 13000 William Dodson Parkway, Farmers Branch, TX 75234
  • Call 972.919.1410 and leave a message
Friday designated 'Bike to Work' day

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Pedal pushing is encouraged as National Bike to Work Day has been designated this Friday.
   As part of support for the overall Trail Master Plan, the Farmers Branch City Council designated May as National Bike Month in their meeting of May 3.
   Dallas Area Rapid Transit is encouraging area residents to bike-to-work on Friday and is setting up "Energizer Stations" at several DART stations, including Farmers Branch, where snacks, beverages and bike safety checks will be available.
35Express to reopen northbound Valley View exit lane

FARMERS BRANCH ~ The 35Express construction group has announced their plan to reopen the northbound Valley View Lane exit ramp off of Interstate 35E during the overnight hours on Friday.
   Responsible for the complete reconstruction of Interstate 35E from LBJ Freeway north to Highway 380 in Denton County, the 35Express group closed the northbound Valley View exit in February to facilitate work in the area.

Most City offices to close for holiday

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Most City offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
   Exceptions will be the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center and Historical Park, both open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
   Also, the Margaret Young Natatorium will be open from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. while the Frog Pond will continue its opening weekend that day from 1 until 6 p.m.
   In a departure from previous years, there WILL be regular garbage and recycling pickup on Memorial Day.
Kids get a night out May 21 at Rec Center

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Kids' Night Out is a fun-filled evening for children two and a half to 12 years of age set for May 21 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Farmers Branch Community Recreation Center, located at 14050 Heartside Place.
   Activities will range from gymnastics to crafts and more, with pizza and soft drinks to round out the evening.
   This event will be hosted by gymnastic instructor Gayle Shank. For pricing and more info, call 972.247.4607.
Busy weekend planned at Historical Park

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Two free events are planned for this upcoming weekend at the Farmers Branch Historical Park, located at 2540 Farmers Branch Lane.
   First up, the oldest house in the Historical Park will be open for visitors on Saturday, May 21. Guests will be greeted by an actor garbed as the home's original resident, Mrs. Julia Gilbert, and will receive guided tours of the structure from 1 to 4 p.m.
   Secondly, those who are young at heart should bring a kite and enjoy the open meadow during the 'Come Fly A Kite' event on Sunday, May 22 from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Participants will be given a small gift from the Historical Park.

   Previously a Firefighter for the City of Corsicana, Firefighter Hawk brings a wealth of experience and service to the City.

FBTX ~ With eight valid alarPolice Carm calls last year, out of 3,059 responded to by the Police Department, the Farmers Branch City Council has approved changes to the local alarm  ordinance, designed to keep officers on the street and away from false alarm calls.

Dennis detour to run through summer

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Roadwork on Dennis Lane will have traffic from Valley View to Richland Avenue running one way only through mid-August.
