Farmers Branch labeled a "vibrant city" by real estate insider blog
FARMERS BRANCH ~ Saying the community has made the transition from "sleepy suburb" to "vibrant city," the real estate insider blog CandysDirt.com heralded the housing renaissance in Farmers Branch as the key to resurgence in a recent post.
The blog post says Farmers Branch housing stock, which reached build-out in the 1970s, had become "frayed around the edges" before "the City woke up."
"They adopted a forward-thinking, progressive approach, and builders and developers took notice. The city, which already had parks and green space, has started better utilizing those areas for residents and visitors. Shopping centers and other commercial buildings are getting facelifts, partially funded by the city. Dilapidated houses are being torn down on the city's dime and empty land sold to encourage better homes with a higher tax base. Multi-family developments are phased in to create a work-play-live, walkable atmosphere."
The blog goes on to credit the city's geographic location, access to transportation and other amenities and the Farmers Branch Demolition/Rebuild program as some of the ingredients behind the vibrancy.
Real Estate Insider Candy Evans is the force behind CandysDirt.com which is designed, according the site, for the "truly real-estate obsessed" in Dallas and North Texas. The National Association of Real Estate Editors named CandysDirt.com as the best real estate blog in the nation in 2013 and 2015.

Mosquito season is underway
FARMERS BRANCH ~ Mosquito season is here and Farmers Branch staff is working hard to protect residents from mosquito-borne diseases such as Zika and West Nile Virus.
As in years past, Farmers Branch is implementing its Integrated Mosquito Management (IMM) program. Resident participation and involvement is crucial to the success of the IMM program.
Additionally, Environmental Health staff is working closely with Code Enforcement to address stagnant pools and properties that have the potential to become mosquito breeding grounds.
Efforts are focused on prevention through education, surveillance, and use of larvicide. Last week, the Environmental Health Division put out the first traps of the season to collect mosquitoes to be tested for West Nile Virus by Dallas County, all of which tested negative.
Staff will continue to put out traps throughout the summer; these sample pools will help determine if and when the city will be sprayed for mosquitoes.
Residents are reminded to drain standing water, wear insect repellent with DEET, and avoid going outside at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active. Mosquito "dunks" to treat standing water are available free of charge to residents at the Senior Center and Farmers Branch City Hall, limit one per household.
