Charles Cox named Farmers Branch City Manager
FARMERS BRANCH ~ Drawing on a wealth of expertise and institutional knowledge, the Farmers Branch City Council on Tuesday named Managing Director and long-time Finance Director Charles S. Cox to be the next City Manager of the growing community.
"I'm excited, humbled, and honored to move into this new role, and very glad to have such an incredible team to help me in this transition," Mr. Cox said after his appointment. "Exciting things are happening in our City and I look forward to working with our dynamic elected officials, dedicated volunteers and outstanding City staff as we move forward."
A 24-year veteran of the Farmers Branch staff, Mr. Cox began his municipal government career in Haltom City where he served from 1986 to1993. He is a graduate of Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University with Bachelors and Masters degrees. Active in professional circles, Mr. Cox is past president of the Government Finance Officers Association and a member of Financial Accounting Foundation.
Mr. Cox replaces Gary D. Greer who resigned earlier this year after spending nearly nine years at the helm in Farmers Branch.

Farmers Branch Market ready for opening day Saturday
FARMERS BRANCH ~ After an absence of about 15 years, farmers will be back in the Branch on Saturday, May 7 for the grand opening of the all-new Farmers Branch Market, in The Grove at Mustang Crossing located at 12700 Denton Drive.

Improvements have been made to the area that will accommodate a wide array of vendors offering seasonal favorites, with the Market open each Saturday, through October 29, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
The grand opening will kick off with the ribbon cutting at 8 a.m. and vendor's stalls open for shoppers immediately following. The event will also feature the fresh produce and specialty foods, as well as arts and crafts, a complimentary gift for the first 1,000 visitors, live entertainment by the Dan Quinn Band, a mimosa bar and Dough Boy donuts for the first 300 visitors. Kids' activities will also be available with a bounce house, fence art and children's entertainer, David Chicken.
Concessions that can be purchased during the Grand Opening include breakfast tacos and a mimosa bar provided by Nuevo Leon.

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Dallas County voters can cast their vote on May 7 at their designated precinct locations.
In the two Farmers Branch City Council races, Ana Reyes is running unopposed in District 1, while Chuck Zubarik and Terry Lynne are vying for the District 4 Council seat.

Stars will shine at Star Party scheduled May 10
HISTORICAL PARK ~ Stargazing for the whole family is set for Tuesday, May 10 from sunset to 9 p.m. at the Historical Park Meadow.
This free event offers high powered telescopes that will be focused on the Sun, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn and more. The Texas Astronomical Society of Dallas will be on hand to assist with the telescopes and to answer questions.
In the event of bad weather, an alternate date is scheduled for Thursday, May 12.

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Anyone that has ever considered serving on a City board is invited to attend a 'Boards and Commissions' Recruiting Event, planned for Tuesday, May 10 at 6 p.m. at Farmers Branch City Hall.

Applications for Board service are being accepted April 18 through May 16. Eligible applicants may be asked to attend a followup interview session with the City Council on May 24.

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Kids ages 16 and under can try their hand at fishing during the annual Fishin' Fun in Farmers Branch event, set this year for Saturday, May 14 on the banks of Rawhide Creek in Gussie Field Watterworth Park, near Farmers Branch City Hall.
No registration is required and the event is free for kids, 16 and under. They can bring their own equipment or borrow a rod and reel from the Parks and Recreation Department.
Kayaking, zip lining and other activities are planned at the Park as part of the event. For more information, call 972.919.1433.

Brookhaven College Music Series produces classical sounds
MANSKE LIBRARY ~ Internationally recognized classical guitarist and recording artist Carlo Pezzimenti directs the Guitar Ensemble, which will be performing at the Manske Library Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. as part of their Music Series.
The Brookhaven College students in this ensemble work mainly on chamber music, and will be performing classical arrangements.
This event is free.

Teens invited to Star Wars event
MANSKE LIBRARY ~ The Library is hosting a Star Wars themed event for teens, 7th through 12th grade on Wednesday, May 12 starting at 5 p.m.
Participants can dress in costume, make their own lightsabers and show off their ability to channel "The Force."

Library to sponsor Spelling Bee for Adults on May 14
MANSKE LIBRARY ~ For adults who might have missed their opportunity when they were younger, the Manske Library is hosting a Spelling Bee just for adults, Saturday May 14 at 3 p.m.

The Farmers Branch Rainbow Girls organization donated $1,500 for K-9 Unit FARMERS BRANCH ~ Per K-9 Officer Grigg, the donation will be used for a safety device that will monitor the heat in the patrol car. If the heat exceeds a certain temperature, the car will alert the K-9 handler. It will also be able to pop the door locks in the event of an emergency situation. Many thanks to the Rainbow Girls for donating these funds to protect K-9 Bullet. |
