RECYCLING Update
Ready to roll
New Curbside Recycling Program begins next week

FARMERS BRANCH ~ After the substantial completion of cart delivery in the past week, the new Farmers Branch Curbside Recycling Program is ready to begin the week of April 4.
Residents should consult the map at fbrecycles.com to determine what day their recycling should be placed out for pickup.
When rolled out for pickup, containers should be placed near the same location as trash collection (curb or alley) behind the curb line no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before scheduled pickup and no later than 7 a.m. on collection day.  Carts must be returned to their storage location by 9 a.m. the day after service.
Accepted Materials
  • Plastic containers (#s 1-5 & 7)
  • Newspapers
  • Aluminum, steel and tin containers
  • Glass bottles & containers
  • Corrugated cardboard & boxboard & mixed paper
Not Accepted Materials
  • Paper towels, facial & toilet tissue
  • Plastic bags & packaging
  • Wax coated paper drink containers, food & wet waste
  • Paper, plastic & styrofoam serving items
  • Grass clippings and shredded paper
The curbside recycling program is free to Farmers Branch residents.
The new ordinance requires that carts be hidden from street view, such as in a garage or behind a wood fence.  For those that, for whatever reason, cannot store a cart in the garage or backyard, they may store the cart next to the house provided that carts are screened in with opaque fencing in an L-shaped configuration.
There will be a grace period until October 1 for installation of proper screening.
Fines for solid waste ordinance violations will range up to $500. However, City officials emphasize that residents will have ample opportunity to learn about proper storage and correct any issues. Fines will not be assessed except for multiple repeat violations.
For more information, go to fbrecycles.com or call 972.919.2597.

 & Tom Bryson
The control room of the station was badly damaged in a pre-dawn fire last year and had to be completely refurbished.
Today, the Wicker station pumps water to the emerging area west of I-35E which already enjoys healthy infrastructure with a two million gallon elevated storage tank, 16-inch water lines along Valley View (18-inch along railroad tracks), Luna Road sewer station and the new Mercer sewer station.
Farmers Branch Public Works Director Randy Walhood said the infrastructure installed years ago, coupled with recent improvements, was put in with full development of the West Side in mind.
