Salute
Once again, I hate saying goodbye to trusted and long-standing members of the Farmers Branch family.
At the same time, when the circumstance is a well-deserved retirement, I am happy to speak to the difference they've made for the City of Farmers Branch and how much they will be missed. And, so it is with Olen Nienstedt. Olen retires this month with a combined 38 years of municipal government experience including a stint with Carrollton and two tours here in Farmers Branch. He began here in Farmers Branch in 1977 as Foreman in the Streets Division where his supervisor was local legend, Dalton Chambers. After spending six years in Carrollton as a Construction Inspector, he returned to Farmers Branch in 2001 as a Construction Inspector, promoted to Senior Construction Inspector in 2013.
Obviously, the process of inspecting infrastructure projects will go on, but it won't quite be the same without Olen and his particular brand of efficiency at the helm. His Public Works co-workers say what they'll miss most about the quiet, funny guy with the hard-to-spell last name is that he is ever-dependable and infallibly trustworthy. What we'll miss as an organization is his extreme dedication to his work and how that translated to ensuring quality of life for everyone that lives, works and even drives through Farmers Branch. Thirty-eight years is a long time and we're better because he spent 32 of them with us. Whatever the world holds for Olen Nienstedt in the next 38 years, and beyond, I have no doubt he will excel in it. Congratulations, Olen! And, thank you!

However, as of late Wednesday, the National Weather Service was calling for an 80 percent chance of heavy rain in Farmers Branch Saturday morning. If weather precludes holding the event, it will be rescheduled for a later date. Continue to monitor City media channels for updates.
