Back the Blue
It is a difficult time to be a police officer.
Not that the job is ever easy, but with anti-police sentiment boiling over in some communities, it seems the incidence of police officers killed in the line of duty is on the rise.
And these murders are so senseless.
It doesn't really matter if the roots of this thing are in Ferguson, or Baltimore or New York, they impact us all right where we live.

Make no mistake about it, your police officers in Farmers Branch are among the finest anywhere. And, I don't just mean the best trained or equipped or supported by excellent leadership. While all that is true, I mean these are fine people. We make sure of that by hiring well. It's not enough to make the right grades in the Academy or be able to score better than anyone else on the qualification range. You have to be a good person, with a servant's heart and the willingness to go above and beyond every day.
These people are.
No matter the community, police officers are there because they want to serve, to give back, to make the world a better place. And, they are people with families - husbands, wives, children. All it takes is to look into the face of Louisiana State Trooper Steven Vincent's son at his father's funeral to understand the heart-wrenching toll of this random violence. What we can, and should, do here in Farmers Branch is what so many of you already do. Back the Blue. Support our men and women in the Police Department and let them know it whenever you can. It is only by turning the tide of popular, public opinion will conditions change. Law enforcement is here to help us live our lives with safety, security and liberty. For that alone, they deserve our respect and support.

FARMERS BRANCH ~ In a continuing effort to improve pedestrian safety at strategic spots, the Farmers Branch Public Works Department has installed solar-powered rapid flash crosswalk signs at three locations. The rapid flashing of beacons is activated by pressing a button by pedestrians on the pole at the intersections of Valwood at Albemarle, Valley View near William Dodson Parkway and Webb Chapel, near Longmeade. The amber lights flash in an irregular pattern, much like the lights on a police car, and work with the signs to alert drivers that pedestrians are in the crosswalk.

Code Enforcement
Sweeps to help enhance compliance
FARMERS BRANCH ~ In an effort to boost code compliance across the City, the Community Services Department has announced that Code Enforcement officers will be focusing resources on areas with a history of significant code issues.
These "sweeps" will bring all code enforcement officers together into an area, over several days, to help identify as many violations as possible and work to bring those violations into compliance.
"In the spirit of neighborhood revitalization, the Farmers Branch City Council asked City administration to increase code compliance activity by stepping up our level of enforcement," said Community Services Director Andy Gillies. "With that in mind, we are taking this non-traditional approach to help improve code compliance in specific areas."
Mr. Gillies said the sweeps will rotate throughout the City, as the need arises, while working to maintain a balance and not disrupting enforcement efforts in other parts of the City.
