A word about waste

During our various CityWide CleanUp events and efforts, some of the greatest participation has come from the opportunities to properly dispose of Household Hazardous Waste.
We had one such event earlier this year, in June, and have another one coming up on Saturday, November 14.  You'll be hearing more about that one as the date grows near.
In the meantime, if you can't make it out to any of these events, you should know about the spectacular service offered every week by the good folks at the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center - the permanent installation where any Dallas county resident from a participating City can take their household hazardous waste.
And, yes, Farmers Branch is a participating City.
Having had the opportunity to visit there recently to take some old paint, there are a few observations I thought I should share:
   1. The location at 11234 Plano Road in Dallas sounds like it should be a long way from Farmers Branch, but, it's really not. Took me maybe 15 minutes. It's about a mile north of LBJ on Plano Road.
   2. They do take specific stuff so its worth your time to check out their web page on the Dallas County website.
   3. The folks that work there know their stuff and they are awesome, friendly and very accommodating.
They are open regular, but different hours, during the week. On Tuesdays, they are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesdays and Thursdays, each, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are always closed on Sundays, Mondays and Fridays.
Finally, you should be certain to have your driver's license or a utility bill showing your Farmers Branch address in order for them to know you live in a participating community.
This is a resource Farmers Branch participates in so I encourage everyone to take advantage of it as you need to and as you are able. Not only does it help us keep our own homes clean and free from household chemicals, it helps keep that kind of waste from getting into the landfill.
That's good for all of us.

Coffee with a Cop coming Saturday at The Diner

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Caffeine and conversation is on the schedule for the next installment of Coffee with a Cop, set for Saturday, August 22 at The Diner, 3330 Beltline.
Planned from 9 until 10 a.m., members of the Farmers Branch Police Department will be there to talk to residents and answer questions on whatever topic they choose.
There is no formal presentation, just conversation between cops and citizens.
Farmers Branch Police Chief Sid Fuller said the program has become one of the most recognizable community relations events for the department.
"Any time we can put an officer and a member of the community together in a positive, proactive situation, that can only be good," Chief Fuller explained. "That's why these events are so popular and so positive. It's like having a capsulized version of National Night Out every month. The interaction is invaluable."

FARMERS BRANCH ~ The record rainfall of 2015 in addition to a legal battle over the source for local drinking water is combining for a perfect storm that will likely result in higher water and sewer rates for the new fiscal year.
Most costs associated with water service come from Dallas Water Utilities, the City's water provider, and the Trinity River Authority, the City's wastewater service provider.   Water
