BRANCH BULLETIN - eNews from Farmers Branch
Memo from the MANAGER

Be informed

Arguably, one of the greatest political thinkers in American history was Thomas Jefferson. One of his most treasured ideals was that education and information were central to the functioning of a government.
Gary 2013
"Self-government is not possible unless the citizens are educated sufficiently to enable them to exercise oversight," said the master of Monticello.
This is a valid preface for explaining the City organization's role in the bond proposition before the voters.
As you know, $23.5 million is being requested to fund street improvement projects during the next 10 years. As part of this process it is important to know that the City organization does not and cannot advocate a position either way on the issue. Rather, it is our job to be sure the voters are as educated as possible on the subject where they can render an informed opinion at the ballot box.

Bond Issue 2014: My Dinner with Randy
If you haven't seen it yet, I encourage you to take a look at the attached four-minute video piece where our Public Works Director, Randy Walhood, explains more about the bond issue and how we arrived at this point, over a virtual, video dinner.
Beyond that, there is additional information online at  www.farmersbranchtx.gov/bond, there is a "Bond FAQ" in your April water bill or you can call us at 972.247.3131.
Let me rephrase that - if you have any questions, please call us at 972.247.3131.
We want everyone to know as much as they can before they enter the voting booth. So, if you're searching for information we've not provided to you, please let us know.
Don't forget, early voting begins Monday and Election Day is May 10.

Military couple gets a 'Wedding in the Branch'
Saturday ceremony will be a first for redesigned rose garden

ROSE GARDENS OF FARMERS BRANCH ~ Continuing the patriotic theme of City events, and in an effort to symbolically give back to the men and women of the U.S. military, the City of Farmers Branch, in association with 24 vendors from around the area, is giving away a Rose Garden Wedding to a military couple on Saturday, April 26.

Add a description
OSSN Brandon Cullum & Elizabeth Croager

U.S. Navy Operations Specialist Seaman Brandon Cullum and his fiancée, Elizabeth Croager, will be the first couple to wed in the newly redesigned Rose Garden at Gussie Field Watterworth Park in Farmers Branch. Both originally from north Texas, Brandon is currently stationed in Japan aboard the U.S.S. Shiloh.

Featuring archways, fountains and a designed "outdoor room" amidst the roses, the garden was redesigned after the EarthKind rose trial designation expired in 2012. Until then, the garden was a vital and active part of the EarthKind rose trials, experimenting with rose varieties that require little care or water.

The garden was redesigned with weddings and events in mind.

Brandon and Elizabeth were awarded the "dream rose garden wedding" in an announcement last year at the Farmers Branch Independence Day Celebration. Sponsors offered prize giveaways to registered participants in the months leading up to the announcement last summer.

Those partners have donated the various components of the wedding from formal wear to the cake, flowers, invitations, photography and more. Information on the Wedding in the Branch, including sponsors, a blog and more, can be found at www.weddinginthebranch.com.

Voluntary water conservation remains in effect

FARMERS BRANCH ~ Although 2013 proved to be wetter than usual for north Texas, Farmers Branch City Manager Gary D. Greer wants to remind residents voluntary water conservation measures remain in effect.

"Although the rain we've had last summer was extremely rare for that time of year, we remain in the clutches of non-typical weather patterns," he explained. "That's why we implemented Stage 1 voluntary conservation measures, under our drought contingency plan, in early 2012 and that's why we're continuing that stage now."
