Puppy love
Ever hear someone described as a "dog person?"
There is no doubt that some folks are much more inclined towards having pets than others. They may include hamsters, fish, cats, pigs, birds, even snakes. I knew someone that used to work for me that had most of the above - at one time. But, I think there's a difference between being a pet person and being a dog person. Here's why.
Not everyone may take a liking to hamsters, fish, cats, pigs, birds or snakes. But, I don't know anyone who isn't at least slightly moved by the look of excited exhilaration in the soulful eyes of a dog that is excited to see you. Some may protest otherwise, but I believe everyone, deep down, is a dog person.
Similar to Jeff Foxworthy's test for determining rednecks, I have a way for someone to figure out if they're a dog person or not. Visit the Farmers Branch Animal Adoption Center and experience the feeling of adoring pups rushing into the yard to greet you. They may not know you but they'll be excited to see you. I dare you not to return the feeling. This is where anyone can find their inner dog person. It's certainly where I found mine when visiting the Animal Adoption Center this weekend and letting the pups run around me.
It's also where anyone can find a dog to take home and become a part of their family. We haven't yet, but this little guy came close. If you've not been by the Animal Adoption Center, you really owe it to yourself to take a tour. As a Farmers Branch resident you should be proud of this facility and the people that keep it in tip-top order. Their public hours are from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Oh, they're still there on Mondays and Wednesdays but those are internal work days where they strive to keep the facility in outstanding shape and care for the animals like they were their own. So, even if you're not interested in a pet right now, drop by the Farmers Branch Animal Adoption Center and see your hometown at work. You may even find out you were more interested than you thought. |
