Please take a look at  the Golden State Warriors "Scout Night" video recognizing the Top Popcorn Selling Scouts from our Council.  These 11 Scouts alone sold over $22,000+ in Popcorn.   The event was such a huge success with over 1,600 Scouts in attendance and each Scout in uniform was invited to shoot a free throw after the game.  The 2013 Popcorn Campaign is right around the corner and there will be a  bunch of new flavors coming out this year   Make sure your unit has someone in attendance for the Council Popcorn Kick-Off coming later this Summer.  For more information please contact Tim Welty (tim.welty@scouting.org)

Eagle Scout Recognition Dinner

Annually, Las Aguilas de Diablo, an association of Eagle Scouts in the Mt. Diablo Silverado Council, hosts a dinner to recognize last year's Eagle Scouts and Silver Award recipients. Las Aguilas matches a youth with a sponsor within their prospective career choice.

At this year's dinner, Las Aguilas gave six-one thousand dollar scholarships to Eagle Scouts.

Although the Keynote speakers are always great and this year's speaker was no less, with De La Salle football coach, Bob Ladouceur giving a great talk on leadership. I really enjoy the annual self-introduction of our youth, where they share with the crowded room, their Eagle project summary, and college and career choices. Our Scouts and Venturers are amazing. You can tell by their demeanor and presentation skills that they are ready for their next step in life, for which Scouting has prepared them. They are ready to study, law, medicine and science in college with many having high aspiration to reach the top of their field. One day I wouldn't be surprised to have one of Scouts or Venturers return as our keynote speaker for the Eagle recognition dinner.

As far as our Scouts may climb in their chosen field or life, I hope that the value of "helping other people at all times" will be the most lasting throughout their lives as they become our communities future leadership.

I always feel more secure about the future of our world after attending the Eagle Scout recognition dinner. I hope you feel the same way after your Courts of Honor, campouts or even weekly meetings. We are creating our future leadership within your Scouting units and I believe we will be in good hands.

Thank you,

Scouts Invited to Amateur Radio Emergency Operation

Pleasant Hill hams (amateur radio operators) are inviting local Scouts to join us as we raise masts and antennas, fire up generators and emergency radios, and get on the air sending and receiving messages across the United States. An excellent opportunity for all scouts to check us out, but an especially opportune invitation for any Scouts considering a Radio merit badge!

To participate in ARRL Field Day, Pleasant Hill hams will set up Emergency Radio Operations in Dinosaur Hill Park on the west side of Pleasant Hill at 901 Taylor Blvd. We will start setting up equipment early Saturday morning June 22nd, operate "on the air" day and night, and tear down our station late Sunday morning June 23rd.

Scouts are welcome to observe at any time, and under the supervision of our hams Scouts may also help set up or take down equipment and tents and even take a turn at operating a radio if they so choose. The event is open to the public, so no advanced arrangements are needed, simply come on out and join us anytime. Search the internet for "Hawaii Ham Radio Field Day 2012" for an example of a similar event. If any Scout or group of Scouts would like to be more involved than just dropping by and observing, please contact Bill Brink,WA7LZYwmbrink@comcast.net
