Exceptional Horsemanship Newsletter
Greetings!

I hate running. Includes jogging. Now, if you are a runner/jogger, don't get your panties in a bunch. I have a lot of respect for those that do. I've tried to like it--many times over the years, I really have... I just hate it.
The reason I'm bringing this up? The tenacity needed certainly applies to horsemanship, and by horsemanship, I don't mean getting on a horse. I mean horsemanship.  Like Harvey Mackay says,
"Marathons are a metaphor for life. There are challenges, obstacles, rallies, accomplishments and celebrations."
And from Booker T. Washington:
"Success is measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed."
You must want to do it yourself! No one can give it to you or do it for you!
You   Must   Want   It   and   Do   It   Yourself.
So for marathons, so for horsemanship.
I think it was Tom Dorrance that said,
"I can't teach you, but I can help you learn."
Concepts for that below.
btw-- I generally have pictures in the newsletter and there is always my horse logo banner at the top. If you are not getting these, please go into your settings and allow the graphics from your browser.

TOBI UPDATE!

For those of you that have been getting the newsletter for a while, remember Tobi? Read it link. The rescue Dutch Warmblood horse with one eye that I had the opportunity to meet and work with for a Curbside Service demo at a horse expo. So many of you wrote me after that blog post and asked for updates. Well, it's been 2 years, Tobi has been moved around, but not found his person and they had taken him off the adoptable list as he wasn't a good candidate now.
I received a phone call. A woman had recently moved here from Germany and had fallen in love with Tobi (who was in Tucson at a different rescue) on line. She had adopted him a week before the phone call and was trying to find anything she could about him as the rescue didn't know much. She googled "Tobi, rescue horse" and voila! my blog post popped up. She called. I could not be more delighted. It choked me up just thinking about him. We set up a time to meet up so I could work with the two of them.
Now then, I can barely relate the story without welling up. I've put it on my blog to save space. So now, you can read Tobi--The Next Chapter AND see the short video of him I've included! He has just the most beautiful face. Tobi

So... Are You Horseman Material????
Folks NOT watching the "What You're Missing in Your Horsemanship That's Costing You video? In my quest to gain info, intelligence and insight into how to better help folks in their quest for exceptional horsemanship, I put together a 2 hour intense training video. I needed to see if all the techie parts of the offer would work so the beta test was on. Anyone could get the 2 hours of training--stuff no one else has put out there--for only $10. Even though we thought everything would be perfect in the downloads, payment process, auto email responses, etc. there was a gremlin or two to eradicate.
The puzzlement now is how many of those that got the video have watched it! Or as may be the case... not watched it. I've talked to a few folks, including friends, who have said: "I just haven't had 2 hours to sit down and watch it."   Grrrrr......  Kids, you don't have to watch the whole thing in one fell swoop! Not only that, you will probably find yourself watching it dozens of times, I hope, and getting more and more out of it as you learn and recognized nuance.

Settling for the dangers of horse ownership. Ignorance and Ignorance. There are two definitions here, true? Not knowing something or not caring about something. Not the same thing, but it will get you the same result with a horse. I was at a barn to teach a lesson a couple of weeks ago. A friend (I'll call her Pat) of the student was messing with one of the other horses there and regaled me with the drama that had happened the prior week. Seems the horse had stepped on Pat's foot accidentally. Then, when Pat tried to push the horse off, horse put all her weight on the hoof on the foot smashing parts below. Pat expounded on how sweet the horse is a such a delight to be around.
Accidentally! Really? Not! With all the land in the world the horse chose her 4 square inches of real estate (her toe/foot area) and precisely placed her hoof on it. Then, because she's such a sweet mare (and I'm not saying she isn't, but any horse will take/get points where they can to amuse themselves and I can't blame them) instead of giving to pressure on the shoulder to get off, she sweetly shifted ALL her weight onto it and remained there.
This is the type of thinking that I'm trying to get people to change. Horses are so subtle. You tell me how someone that is paying attention to what is happening in the moment can: 1) not notice an 1100 pound animal shifting/moving toward them. 2) not know whether or not the animal will respect your directive to not shift toward them. 3) not cause the horse to freakin' get out of your space. 4) not, when you don't have those skills, move your freakin' foot!!!! before the horse steps on it!
Understanding and becoming aware of this type of looming problem is what is on the video in many different forms as come up with a horse. I plan on cutting the video up into smaller parts (so folks can digest it better) and putting it on my website, but if you didn't get it in the week it was available for the beta test, you'll have to wait--I'm busy doing lots of other things.
Please feel free to drop me an email to let me know your thoughts on the video or your thoughts about what you prefer in a format or other suggestions.

There's a difference between techniques and technique.
For exceptional results, think "how and how can I".
