 Understanding Sonar

This image has lots of stuff to point out.

Green arrow is  the Mercury lower unit and possibly the Mercury 9.9.

Black arrows are fish.

Black circle is surface clutter. I don't try to remove it with the Surface clarity feature since if you set Surface Clarity to high you can eliminate targets (fish).

The white arrow points out the thicker white band which means the bottom is harder and reflecting sound better. The 2D sonar doesn't show it because the auto range has cut off the bottom so you can't see the thickness of the bottom band.

How to Determine Fish Location

I get many questions asking where is the fish on the sonar display. If the fish arch is being printed on the screen it is below the transducer. If it anywhere else it is difficult to locate but I have a few tricks to understand where the fish are.
