Understanding the bottom

Some fish are structure related and prefer boulders, understanding the bottom is key to catching them.

Smallmouth bass, walleye and rock bass are 3 examples of fish that relate to boulders.

Sonar will show boulders as bumps on the bottom.

This image shows the boulders on the right as I use the StructureMap to show my location as I drive over the patch of hard bottom. The hard bottom is the white and the lake bottom mud is the dark on the StructureMap.

New Elite 5 HDI

Lowrance displayed an Elite 5 HDI at ICAST which will be a smaller version of the Elite 7 HDI. The first Elite 5 models were either 2D sonar or DSI (down scan imaging) but having BOTH as choices is much better since they each have their value.
I am not sure when it will be available but I predict it will be a top seller since the Elite 7 HDI was priced right for a wide screen stand alone unit.
My contact said the Elite 5 HDI has the same features as the Elite 7 HDI but no NMEA. The power and sonar connections will be the same as the Elite 7 HDI.
I will share more details when Lowrance releases the specs.

StructureScan Training #2

Side scan displays the bottom in shades of brightness. The transducer pings a sound wave and it bounces off the bottom and returns tot eh transducer. The stronger the sound that comes back the brighter it is displayed. The display is amazing but can be difficult to interpret.
