Young Political Prisoner Sentenced to Death

The clerical regime has sentenced a 19 year old political prisoner to death. The Kurdish activist, identified as Saman Nassim, was arrested in June 2011 when he was only 17. He has been condemned to death on charges of "Moharebeh" (waging war against God) and for being a member of the PJAK group.

  • Five executed in Shahroud
  • One individual executed in Zahedan
  • One individual hanged in Tabriz
  • One person executed in Tabas

Iran: UN rights experts 'alarmed' at sharp increase in hangings

The UN's Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions has expressed alarm about reports that at least 40 people have been hanged so far this year. Christof Heyns said in a news release, "We are dismayed at the continued application of the death penalty with alarming frequency by the authorities." He stressed "the inherently cruel, inhuman and degrading nature of the death penalty," adding that the regime is proceeding with executions that do not meet the threshold of the "most serious crimes" as required by international law. According to the press release, the Iranian regime "hanged 33 people in the past week alone. In 2013, 625 people were executives, including at least 28 women and a number of political prisoners."

A prisoner identified as Mohammed Reza in Tehran has been sentenced to execution, three kinds of punishment for retaliation, 30 years of imprisonment and 75 lashes.

 

Two Arab Prisoners Sentenced to Death

Thirteen Iranian human rights groups have expressed concern about the fate of two Arab activists sentenced to death. The two, Hashem Sha'abani and Hadi Rashedi, are teachers. They have been sentenced to death along with three others by the Revolutionary Court in the city of Ahvaz. They are charged with "Moharebeh" (waging war against God), Corrupt on Earth, propaganda against the state and acting against national security.

Pressure on Baluchi Prisoners 
A Baluchi political prisoner has been transferred to solitary confinement after being placed under torture and after suffering from serious wounds and bleeding. Jihand Rigi was arrested three years ago and has been continuously placed under torture.

Iranian Economist Taken to Prison

An Iranian economist and political activist has been transferred to Evin prison. Dr. Ali Rashidi, who is 77, was sentenced a-year-and-a-half ago to two years in prison and banned from social security for five years.

Satellite Dishes Confiscated

The regime's State Security Forces (SSF) has began confiscating satellite dishes in Islam Abad since the last week of December. SSF agents raid residential places and confiscate dishes placed on rooftops.

Three University Students Lashed in Public 
January 24, 2014 
Three university students were lashed in public in Shahr-e Kord. The three students, studying business management at Shahr-e kord university, each received 85 lashes at the main square of the city.

2,230 Arrested in Small Province

January 18, 2014 
The commander of the State Security Forces (SSF) in the province of Charmahal Bakhtiari has announced the breaking up of 62 gangs. He said 2,230 of them have been arrested.

Sunni Teacher Imprisoned and Lashed

A teacher at the Religious Sciences School in Sanandaj has been sentenced to imprisonment and 30 lashes. Hashem Hossein Panahi, who is also the director of the Mufti Office and Sharia leader of Kurdistan, has been charged with disseminating propaganda against the regime by the Special Clerical Court of Tehran. He has been sentenced to six months in prison. 

 

 

 

C. Harassment of Families of PMOI in Prison
 

PMOI Supporter Tortured

Henchmen at Evin prison are preventing a political prisoner to receive medical treatment. Ali Salanpour was arrested on December 19, 2010, on charges of having ties with and supporting the PMOI. He was then placed under psychological and physical torture.

 

Continued Harassment of Dr. Yazerlou

January 22, 2014

Dr. Hani Yazerlou, a family member of PMOI in Camp Liberty, has been "exiled" to Mashhad prison from Evin prison. The move took place on January 18. Dr. Yazerlou was once again placed under torture after being transferred to Mashhad prison.

Political prisoner Mohammad Banazadeh Amirkhizi has been transferred to Evin prison's clinic. The health condition of the political prisoner, who was exposed to radiation from satellite jamming equipment, deteriorated and he fell down breaking his shoulder and arm. He was later transferred to the clinic. Prison officials say that if he wants to be transerred to a hospital outside prison he has to pay the medical bills himself. Another political prisoner, Mashallah Haeri, who has also been exposed to satellite jamming radiation, has been bleeding from the nose, mouth and ears. Most of the political prisoners and prisoners of conscience have been suffering from a variety of health conditions as a result of strong satellite jamming signals in the prison. Their symptoms include headaches, nausea, fatigue, sleep deprivation, nerve complications and others. Prison officials have added two more satellite jamming equipment to the 10 systems already operational in the prison.

Political prisoners react to intimidation chanting "down with Khamenei"

Dozens of Special Guards forces and Revolutionary Guards raided ward 12 of Gohardasht prison in Karaj, west of Tehran, and subjected political prisoners to intimidation and harassment. Prisoners responded to this vicious attack by chanting "down with Khamenei", "down with dictator" and "down with tyrant".

 

Jeysh al-Adl Organization Issues Statement

January 20, 2014

The Jeysh an-Adl Organization has announced that it has killed seven members of the Iranian regime's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It also said that a number of other regime forces were injured during its operation in Baluchestan.

 

Worker Strikes in Tehran and Isfahan

January 24, 2014

More than 400 workers of the Iran Tire company in Tehran have gone on strike in protest to the layoff of 80 of their colleagues. In Isfahan, more than 500 workers of Poli Ekril company have protested against the regime's suppressive policies and expelled two managers from the factory. They also removed billboards belonging to the new companies that were set up there.

 

Successful 75-day Hunger Strike

Four Kurdish prisoners, who had launched a 75-day hunger strike at Qezelhesar prison in protest to their sentencing, have ended their strike after regime officials were compelled to accept their demands.

Iran Inflation Tops World Ranking

The International Monetary Fund said in an October report that Iran had the highest inflation rate in the world in 2013.

 

 

Guarded Corruption

Former Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani has said that "there has been extensive corruption in recent years in various arenas." He added these corruption cases "are still secretive and are not being revealed."
