This visit follows the removal of Iranian opposition, MeK, from the U.S. FTO list by the Department of State last year and takes place only a few days after Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei rejected any direct talks over country's nuclear program with United States. The visit also takes place only a week after a deadly rocket attack on Camp Liberty in Baghdad claimed the lives of 7 members of the Iranian opposition and injured nearly one hundred.
The visit was covered extensively by the French and U.S. media and major news agencies, AP, AFP, and Reuters. The delegation condemned last week's rocket attack on Camp Liberty and demanded that the residents be returned to Camp Ashraf, their home for 26 years, as it provided better shelter against future similar attacks.
