Iran Update

Greetings!

A U.S. bi-partisan congressional delegation (CODEL), led by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, on an official European tour, met with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the NCRI, Sunday.  The delegation included Judge Ted Poe (R-TX), chair of the subcommittee on Terrorism, non-proliferation, and Trade, Brian Higgins (D-NY), HFAC member and ranking member of the subcommittee of Counterterrorism and Intelligence of the Homeland Security Committee, and Congressman Paul Cook (R-CA).  Present was also, Paris first district Mayor, Francois Legaret.

This visit follows the removal of Iranian opposition, MeK, from the U.S. FTO list by the Department of State last year and takes place only a few days after Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei rejected any direct talks over country's nuclear program with United States.  The visit also takes place only a week after a deadly rocket attack on Camp Liberty in Baghdad claimed the lives of 7 members of the Iranian opposition and injured nearly one hundred.

The visit was covered extensively by the French and U.S. media and major news agencies, AP, AFP, and Reuters.  The delegation condemned last week's rocket attack on Camp Liberty and demanded that the residents be returned to Camp Ashraf, their home for 26 years, as it provided better shelter against future similar attacks.

British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom
In 2012, the Iranian regime stepped up domestic suppression with an increase in executions and political arrests and a severe crackdown on the media and access to the internet. The death under torture of Sattar Beheshti, a blogger who defied the regime and the so called reformists by calling for fundamental change in Iran, reflects the beginning of a new era in Iran and radicalization of the people's demands.  Download Report
