Greetings!

Spring is just around the corner (maybe!). With that comes time to think about planting flowers, your vegetable garden or even just some versatile herbs. Beef's a great partner for fresh herbs and vegetables from your garden, or your local supermarket produce section.  Our featured recipes this month pair beef and fresh asparagus.  Check out our new and fresh recipes in this April Newsletter. And, think Spring!!

You + Beef = Brain Power

While you may be paSteak & Tomato Saladst the age for pop quizzes and the SAT, there's a good chance life gives you little tests every day. Maybe you have to manage your household budget or write an important email. It could even be as simple as remembering where you put your keys. No matter what tasks you face in your day, you need mental power! And beef's got the nutrients to get you there...

  • Beef's got iron...in fact one 3-oz serving provides 12% of the Daily Value. Iron is most well known for helping hemoglobin carry oxygen in your blood from your lungs to body cells and tissues. It supports brain development--sounds pretty important to us! Our Mediterranean Beef and Salad Pita recipe is an excellent source of iron.
  • Beef's got B12...that same 3-oz serving provides 37% of the Daily Value. Vitamin B12 helps support the proper function of the neurological system and is related to cognition in the elderly. This Steak and Tomato Salad is probably the easiest and tastiest dose of B12 we've ever tried.
  • Beef's got B6...a 3-oz serving provides 20% of the Daily Value. Vitamin B6 is necessary for the nervous system to work normally, therefore helping with brain function. A Beef and Cream Cheese Bagelwich is a good source of B6-perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner on the go.

We say, eat smarter. Make the most of the foods you're putting in your body. That tasty Top Sirloin or tender Filet does more than just satisfy your taste buds. It provides essential nutrients necessary to live your best. That's pretty powerful stuff.

Bangkok Beef & Basil

Plant a Beef-Loving Garden

Spring is just around the corner (maybe!). With that comes time to think about planting flowers, your vegetable garden or even just some versatile herbs. As you start to think about being more "green," one of the easiest ways is to grow your own food (in as little space as an apartment balcony). Here are some great ideas for plants and herbs that will supply flavor, versatility and fun with your favorite summer grilling protein-beef!

Basil is an ever-popular choice for easy-to-grow herbs. It's packed with flavor and can be grown on a windowsill (for easy snipping while you're cooking). Pop it into an Asian dish like Bangkok Beef and Basil or an Italian staple like your family-favorite spaghetti and meatballs.

Thyme is another great choice...you can basically become the queen (or king) of steak rubs and marinades. Garlic-Thyme Steak Rub and Garlic-Thyme Steak Marinade use the same base ingredients to spice up the steak of your choice.

And veggies...YOU CHOOSE! Vegetables are a great partner to versatile Ground Beef casseroles and skillet dishes. Toss steak strips on top of a bed of greens and your home-grown vegetables for a quick salad.  Skewer them up on steak kabobs for colorful, hand-held options the kids will love. The possibilities are endless.
