Greetings!

Ahh, January-the time of year when we all make resolutions to get in shape, be more active and get rid of unwanted pounds. How about this? Just make a resolution to GET MORE FLAVOR. A substantial body of evidence shows the nutrients in lean beef, such as protein, iron and B-vitamins can help satisfy you and maintain a healthy weight, build muscles and fuel a healthy and active lifestyle. Talk about knocking out those resolutions in a tasty way!

How to Eat Great AND Keep Resolutions!

Did you make a resolution to cook at home more in order to achieve

Sirloin Steak & Tomato Salad

that healthier lifestyle? Good for you! Let us help you figure out a meal plan. Simply stock your fridge and freezer with two staple beef cuts-the Top Sirloin steak and 93% lean or leaner Ground Beef-and you'll have a wealth of delicious possibilities.

The Top Sirloin is a jack of all trades-in addition to being a lean cut! It can become strips for stir-fry, cubes for kabobs or stews and even left alone for a tasty classic steak. Our expert meat cutter will show you how to slice up exactly what you need in this quick video. Then you can try Sirloin Steak and Tomato Salad to liven up that boring old package of salad greens or an Asian Beef and Vegetable Stir-Fry chock full of colorful veggies!

When it comes to choosing Ground Beef, we like to look for 93% lean or leaner options. Choices in this category qualify as lean-meaning they have less than 10 grams of total fat, 4.5 grams or less of saturated fat, and less than 95 mg of cholesterol per 3-1/2-oz cooked serving. A simple method to get a delicious meal on the table in 30 minutes or less is to use Ground Beef in your skillet. With just a few simple steps, you'll have Ranchero Beef and Rice Skillet or Beef and Asparagus Pasta Toss on the table for your hungry family.

New Year's Day Recipes for Relaxing

Slow Cooker Beef Short Ribs
Slow Cooker Beef Short Ribs with Ginger-Mango Barbeque Sauce

On January 1, 2013, most of us will be celebrating the start of the New Year from the comfort of our home. Perhaps we had a special dinner out the night before or stayed up for the countdown with friends. Either way, a cozy home-cooked meal is just what the doctor ordered when the 1st rolls around.
What could be easier than pulling out your slow-cooker or trusty stockpot and sitting back to relax as the smell of dinner permeates the air? The longer cooking time can be filled with so many activities: a nap to catch up on sleep, football games LIKE THE ROSE BOWL, or a sled ride with the kids. But this is the guarantee: when you are ready to sit down for dinner, a warm meal will be on your plate.

Slow Cooker Beef Short Ribs with Ginger-Mango Barbecue Sauce only sounds complicated. The five ingredients necessary will be the least of your worries. Serve with quick-cooking couscous or mashed potatoes (we won't tell if you use instant!).

If something more traditional (read: like Mom used to make) sounds good, try our North Woods Hearty Pot Roast. The entire meal simmers away on the stovetop for about three hours, resulting in fork-tender beef with potatoes, carrots and parsnips. We've even got the gravy covered! Try our other Slow Cooker and Stove Top-Stock Pot recipes.
