Cultivating a culture of faithfulness.

In many ways a culture of faithfulness directly opposes our culture of consumption. Instead of wanting the next best thing - we would relish in what we have. Instead of over emphasizing progression with programs and new teachings - we would come to love the Word of God in its simplicity and beauty. Instead of always focusing on growth in our churches - broken and hurt people would be noticed by those who aren't concerned with how many seats are filled.

I am just as much at fault, and I should acknowledge focusing on size, new teachings, and wanting new things isn't always the wrong way to think. Progression isn't the opposite of faithfulness. Let's consider the great commission (Matthew 28) it is surely a matter of progression. However, let us not forget that faithfulness is found in the few disciples who stayed when many couldn't handle the teachings of Jesus. (John 6)

I am often (all the time) asked what the size of our student ministry is - and often I believe it's asked just to receive a context of what I am dealing with. However at times I have sensed a value given to the amount of students I have. This to me opposes a culture of faithfulness - I too am prone to believe that the more students we have the more successful we will be. But rather than asking how many - why don't we begin to ask ourselves and to others, "what are you doing with what you have been given?" or "how is it with the souls of our youth in our church right now?"

My challenge to myself and to you is to examine our hearts (2 Corinthians 13:5) and see if our consumer way of thinking has penetrated what it means to be faithful. Let us not miss what He has given us by focusing on wanting something else. Let our language be focused on matters of depth and quality rather than width and quantity. Let's learn to give God the glory due to His name even when one has received him.

Mom To Mom is running Wednesday mornings till the end of May.

Oasis

Oasis will be sponsoring a pizza supper for all the Robertson School children (and their parents) who are applying for a camp scholarship (2016) This dinner will be held on Friday, May 6th in the Coffee Connection. All parents who wish their children to go to Camp Kawkawa this summer on a scholarship, are requested to come to the dinner to pick up the Scholarship application forms. This includes the Sr. Campers, whose scholarships are being sponsored by Oasis, and also those Jr. Campers, whose scholarship is being sponsored by the CAC Vision Tree fund.

Then on Sunday, May 29th is the CAC Oasis Camp Kawkawa Evening, when reports of all that has been taking place
at Camp will be given. We receive an update of the progress at the camp in the way of facilities, and Campus upgrades. Reports will be given by some members of the Work Crew, who have been doing so much work at the camp all through the fall, winter, & spring. Wayne Stewart, Camp Director, will also bring an update on what happened at Camp in 2015, not to mention all that is planned for this coming summer. This is a dynamic camp, and there are so many changes taking place all the time. You don't want to miss this evening, which will also feature special music. Plan to come out to this exciting meeting May 29th, at 6:30 p.m. It is also our intention that evening to announce the winners of the Camp Scholarships for 2016.

Continue to remember the Camp scholarship funds in your giving over the coming weeks. We
are still short of funds in both areas Sr. Camp, and Jr. Camp. Just clearly mark you donation on the church envelope for either the Jr. or Sr. Campers. Just so that you know, it costs us $265 to send a Jr. camper, and $395 to send a Sr. Camper. Pr
aise the Lord that this year we have also several previous campers, who are old en
ough to go as Summer Work Crew @ $100. Hopefully, we will be able send 3-4 of these this year for work experience.

Remember the Camp Kawkawa Annual General Meeting falls on Saturday, June 4th7 p.m. at Heritage Alliance in Abbotsford. Everyone is welcome...why not become a Camp Society member. "...and please continue to pray for Camp Kawkawa.
