                                                      March 2013

Dear Provider,

Daylight Savings Time is right around the corner. The days will be longer and the nights shorter but that also leaves you with more time to help our infants and toddlers develop the necessary skills for elementary school.

Child Abuse Prevention Month is April and every year we bring awareness to the issue by planting Pinwheels for Prevention at businesses, social service agencies and at early education sites.  Below you will find more information on how you can be apart of the local campaign.

For more updates and information items please check out our website and other social media platforms.

Sincerely,
Karen Willis

Early educators can take an advocacy role during Child Abuse Prevention Month in April by making and planting pinwheel gardens with students.

Pinwheel logoThe Pinwheels for Prevention campaign is part of a national movement to change the way we think about prevention. The campaign promotes healthy child development, positive parenting practices and community action.

We are asking providers to have your students plant a pinwheel garden in a visible location at your center or home for customers to see. It will serve as a discussion item so that the community can be reminded of the need for child abuse and neglect prevention. The directions on how to create the pinwheels as well as the flyer for you to post in your front window are below.

If you plan to plant a pinwheel garden please let us know so that we can take pictures and post online. If you have more questions, please contact Shannette Prince at sprince@elcoc.org or 407-259-2464.

POPSProviders on Probation

The Department of Education has released the FLKRS scores and unfortunately, some of our early education programs in Orange County did not score well. For those sites that are now Providers on Probation (POP) you will have to attend one mandatory meeting.

The meeting dates are Thursday, March 15th or Friday, March 16th at 1:00 pm at the Second Harvest Community Center. The address for the community center is 411 Mercy Drive, Orlando, FL 32808. Remember, you only have to attend one meeting.

AppreciationSave the Date

Do you have an idea for what you want this year's Provider Appreciation luncheon to look like? What guest speaker would you like to hear from?  Is there a time of day that works better for you?
