Automotive and Collision Students Visit
Camden County College
On November 13, the Automotive and Collision students went to visit the Automotive Technology programs available at Camden County College. While there, the students explored the GM ASEP, or the General Motors Automotive Service Education Program, as well as the apprenticeship programs offered to the students.

The students toured the facility and got a thrill out of the demonstration, such as an airbag deployment system, that showed what the college program offers.

A major highlight of the experience was the new Computer Aided Manufacturing Program, which is a program designed to provide the skills needed in the machine shop workforce. It focuses on computer manufacturing and design, something vital to the students' future careers.

Allied Health News
Cooper University Hospital Field Trip
AHMS seniors are scheduled to participate in the Traumatic Injury Prevention Program (TIPP) on December 9th and December 17th.

This 3-hour program demonstrates the results of risk-taking behaviors using reality instead of shock and scare tactics. Besides hearing a description of the resuscitation process used when a patient is admitted to the Cooper Trauma Unit, students see the actual equipment used during resuscitation and will have a tour of the Trauma Intensive Care Unit. They will be able to see anonymous patients and the trauma team at work.

Annual Blood Drive
On January 14, 2016, the AHMS Academy and HOSA will sponsor the American Red Cross Blood Drive to be held in the West Gymnasium from 8 am to 3 pm. Blood supplies usually reach a critically low level around the holidays so it is of the utmost importance to help our local chapters. GCIT students volunteer each year to donate blood to help increase the blood supplies in the Penn-Jersey area.

FRESHMAN FIELD TRIP
The Allied Health freshmen participated in a field trip to NovaCare Rehabilitation Center in Woodbury, NJ. This is invaluable contact where the students learn from actual therapists on what their jobs include, in a professional environment. The experience is quite like what they themselves want for their futures.

The students participated in demonstrations of therapies such as sensory therapy and balance training. They were also shown ways the center uses therapy to allow training preparation for their patients to return to work. All of these therapies were experienced hands on by the freshmen, who have given nothing but gushing happiness in regard to their adventure at the center. The students are extremely grateful that Novacare is so generous in allowing the Allied Health students to experience hands-on therapy.
Athletics
This past Fall saw many of the GCIT Athletic teams accomplish some great things. For the 4th year the Girls Volleyball team won the NJTAC Tournament & were also Cherokee Invitational champions. The team also took 2nd place in the Gloucester County Tournament.

For the 3rd year in a row the GCIT Girls Soccer team won the NJTAC Championship defeating Passaic Tech 2-1 in overtime.  A few days later the Girls Soccer team won their 1st ever home playoff game by defeating Ocean City HS 3-2 in another overtime thriller!

The Boys & Girls Cross Country teams also had nice seasons.  The Girls Cross Country squad took 1st place in the South Jersey Vocational meet while the Boys team took 3rd place in the NJTAC meet.

The Girls Tennis team broke the school record for wins by winning 11 matches & hosted a home playoff match. Also Mikeala Spaventa won the Gloucester County Girls Individuals title, making her the 1st GCIT student to claim that championship.  Also, Kevin Burns of the Boys Soccer team was selected to play in the Tri-County Conference all-star game & Corrine Bowell was selected to play in the South Jersey Field Hockey Showcase all star game.

The Winter season gets underway as Bowling & Swimming start their seasons on December 1st while the Basketball teams open up their season on December 18th.

IT/DC Students Visit Instinct Graphics
The Junior Digital Communications students from the Academy of Information Technology and Digital Communications  recently were able to put their learning and design skills to use on a live graphic design job. The project involved seeing a wedding label design through the entire graphic design process.

After gaining an understanding of the clients' needs, the students developed thumbnails and concepts before going to work on the final design. Each student was also tasked with researching print companies and obtaining competitive price quotes.

On a recent field trip, the group was then able to see their label designs go through the production and finishing process. Mr. Dave McCann of Instinct Graphics in Mt. Laurel hosted the group of juniors and showed them what it takes to rip, print, laminate and contour cut labels on adhesive vinyl.

While the hands-on trip was a very valuable, real-world experience; Instinct Graphics was also kind enough to give each student a label of their own design.
Family Friendly School Walkthrough Survey
PLEASE COMPLETE THIS SHORT, ONLINE SURVEY

Is your school a Family Friendly School?

Research shows that when a school and parents work together to support the education of a child, not only does the student perform better in school, but all throughout life.

The best way to nurture a strong relationship between school and family is to create a friendly and welcoming school environment for the families of the students. This is the primary method of improving parental involvement.

The New Jersey State Parent Information Resource Center (NJPIRC) has adopted this Family Friendly Walkthrough Checklist to allow schools to assess their "Family Friendly" Practices. This tool gives school leaders the opportunity to evaluate how inviting their school appears to the parents and community of the school. It can also help to point out various areas that may have been previously overlooked and can be easily addressed.

If you haven't done so yet, please take a few moments to click the link below and complete the following survey.

Thank you for your time.
