| Awards Ceremony and Graduation
The Senior Awards Ceremony is scheduled for June 17, 2013, at 5pm and the Graduation Ceremony will follow at 6:30pm. Graduating students will be issued four tickets prior to graduation. If graduation is held indoors due to inclement weather, each student will be issued two tickets. Any guests requiring special needs seating should contact the school at 856-468-1445 X 2103. Please click here for more details... Freshman "Meet and Greet" The Freshman "Meet and Greet," facilitated by SBYS, will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, from 9am - 2:30pm. In an effort to have all students build upon the skills necessary to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, and creative writers we require they complete the summer reading assignment.
Our summer reading list offers a variety of reading levels, subjects, and genres. Students are encouraged to discuss their reading selections with their parents and/or guardians prior to reading the books.

Style-A-Thon
|  On March 23rd, 2013, 92 Cosmetology student volunteers, 6 GCIT alumni, 7 staff and 7 volunteers participated in the 7th Annual GCIT Style-A-Thon. The cosmetology students provided facials, haircuts, blow dry styles and manicures. They serviced 251 clients and raised over $8,043 dollars along with awareness for cancer research. All proceeds will go to the City of Hope a Cancer Research Center. Thank you to everyone who helped in making this a successful event. |
Patriotic Art Award

Congratulations to senior Chloe Helms! She won first place in the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Awards Competition.
Sgt. A.P. Grochowski, of VFW Post #2071 in the Franklinville Ladies Auxiliary, held the art contest to represent patriotism. Chloe Helms also received a $50 award.

Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament
GCIT softball team walked away with the championship trophy at the Triton Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.
The tournament, in its 4th year, has raised $9,300 combined for the first three years of the tournament.

Cheetahs win NJSIAA Group 3 South Playoffs
The Cheetahs also won the NJSIAA Group 3 South playoffs for the first time ever!
Junior starting pitcher Erynn Sobieski shut down No. 2 Hammonton, spinning a one-hit shutout gem to lead the Cheetahs to a 4-0 win and the South Jersey Group III championship.
"It's absolutely amazing," senior Cheetah shortstop Taylor Favinger said. "We made history as a team, we've been working towards this all year, we knew we had a really good shot at getting it and we came through today."
Sobieski was on top of her game right out of the gate, retiring the first 10 batters that she faced.

Baseball Team Wins 3rd Straight Tech Tournament Championship

Defeats Sussex Tech 5-0 The GCIT baseball team brought home its third straight NJTAC tournament, defeating Sussex Tech 5-0 on May 30th. Jake Danner pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout. "Jake came out and threw strikes," said head coach John Marcucci. "The pitching was real good. The defense made no errors. We just kept the game moving." "The seniors got their 50th win today of their career." said Marcucci. "Zack Funk and Chris Gilcrest were here when the tide turned, so to speak. Mike Macaluso has done a great job for the last three years. This was a great way to see them go out. We didn't have the start of the season we wanted but this was nice. It was a fun game and the kids enjoyed themselves." |
GCIT Earns 42 Gold Medals at SkillsUSA

Brings Home 85 Medals Overall
Please congratulate our SkillsUSA Champions At Work! After many months of practice and preparation, GCIT students acquired 85 medals overall at the SkillsUSA state competition. There were 42 Gold, 33 Silver, and 10 Bronze medals awarded.
On Saturday April 20, 2013, more than 130 GCIT students traveled to Somerset County and competed at the SkillsUSA 2013 State Championships in trade related and leadership competitions. More than 1600 students competed in over 90 contests. Our Gold Medalists will be on their way to Kansas City, Missouri to compete nationally the week of June 24-28, 2013.
NJ SkillsUSA Championships is the state-level competition for high school and post-secondary students who are enrolled in career and technical education training programs within the state.

Construction Technology Students Win

Skills USA -NJ sponsored the 2012-2013 Masonry Competition in Bordentown, NJ on March 12, 2013.
GCIT sent six students to compete and help facilitate the competition and we were well represented with two winning competitors, Tyler Kunkel and Jake Plasket. They were listed as "placed in the medal standings." Tyler and Jake received their designated medals at the closing Awards Ceremonies in
Somerset, NJ on April 20, 2013.
The Construction Technology Team thanks all who were involved with the competition. Congratulations Tyler & Jake on a job well done.

Digital Communication Students Take 1st Place
in PSA Video Contest

Congratulations to GCIT's Academy of Information Technology & Digital Communication senior students Josephine Tanopo and Rachelle Schoch for winning 1st place in this year's Gloucester County Highway Safety Task Force's 10th Annual High School Video Production Contest.
On April 24, 2013, the Task Force announced their top 10 winners which was held at the United Artist Theater in Turnersville, NJ. Tanopo and Schoch took 1st place out of 10 other county high schools with their public service announcement (PSA) about the dangers of driving under the influence. |
Hosmer Earns 1st Place in Anti-Bullying

Congratulations to
Angelica Hosmer for
 taking 1st Place with her one minute PSA, "Words", which highlighted the destructive nature of bullying. Hosmer, a senior in the Academy of Information Technology and Digital Communications, competed in an 'Anti-Bullying High School Video Contest' sponsored by the Gloucester County Prosecutor's office. She was acknowledged for "the maturity you displayed in recognizing that you have the ability to create change and eliminate hurtful behavior is to be commended." |

Congratulations to our HOSA students who competed in the HOSA State Leadership Conference. The following students placed first in the Public Service Announcement Competitive Event: Brandi Chester, Tricia Gregory, Brandon Jones, Zachary McDonald, Marissa Moore, Alyssa Ungrue. Members from that group will be travelling to Nashville, Tennessee to compete at the HOSA National Leadership Conference. Best of Luck to them!
Also, congratulations to Sarah Mae Medalla, who was elected Southern Regional Vice-president to the HOSA State Officers Executive Committee!

School Based Youth Services will be open and providing services throughout the summer months. Counseling services are available between the hours of 8:00am-3:00pm Monday - Thursday.

SBYS Upcoming Events
School Based is sponsoring a summer recreation program for GCIT students.
Trips are scheduled as follows:
- Tuesday, July 9, 2013: Trip to the Food Bank of South Jersey to volunteer in the morning followed by a picnic at Cooper River Park.
- Wednesday, July 31, 2013: Trip to New York City to see a Broadway show followed by lunch at the Hard Rock Caf�. A non-refundable deposit of $25.00 is required to sign up for the trip.
- Tuesday, August 6, 2013: Hiking trip to Ralph Stover National Park in Pennsylvania.
All trips have limited space available which will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Please contact a SBYS counselor for more information on any of our summer trips or to obtain a permission slip.
