Happy Thursday, FLASHERS!

I am always pleasantly aware of how our community is committed to and supports our local non profit organizations. We have quite a few non profits and I truly believe they are the 'heart' of Vero and their efforts enrich the lives of so many! Last weekend was the Habitat for Humanity Hoedown. The Hoedown is an annual event that is a must attend if you never have.  It is a casual, fun, and affordable night! I helped secure auction items for the event and sincerely thank the following businesses that kindly donated when I asked: Absolute Integrated Medicine, Blue Ribbon Boarding and Grooming, Celebrated Speakers Series, Classic Car Wash, Community Veterinary Clinic, Endless Summer Vineyard & Winery, Ill Never Tell, Masters of Music, McKee Botanical Gardens, Plank Pilates, Riverside Theatre, Synergy Institute, The Patio Seafood Tavern, Vero Beach Museum of Art, and Vero Nail Salon. I just can't thank these businesses enough! :) FLASHERS...I ask you to please support those who support our community!

There are still more charitable events on the horizon that will place an exclamation point at the end of our 'season'.  This weekend is the Hibiscus Center's 'Dash in the Sand'. Please consider participating in the run/walk this Saturday to support their efforts in combatting child abuse and providing immediate emergency shelter.  This is a unique run/walk in that it takes place on our beautiful beach!  I'll be there...walking! Register here and come join me! :) On April 9th the Salvation Army will host their annual 'Soup, Soap & Salvation' Benefit Dinner. There are no tickets sold for the event and every donation will be matched by an anonymous donor up to $10,000. The night will feature Jimmy Wayne! Jimmy has a remarkable story of being raised in the foster care system. He actually received his first guitar from the 'Salvation Angel Tree' program when he was a young boy. That guitar was his miracle gift and he is now a singer/songwriter sensation who has also written his 'best selling' biography!  What an inspiration. Jimmy is the perfect example of the very personal impact these charities can make in the lives of others. Call and rsvp or click here to make a donation that our anonymous donor will match.  I'll be there too. :)  Here are a few more upcoming dates to get on your calendar:
Ms. Senior Florida Pageant - March 19
Habitrot - March 29
Taste of Vero - April 6th
Hibiscus Vero Cycling Ride - April 9th
Hibiscus Festival - April 9th & 10th
The Mental Health Association - Grit, Ganache, Gadson - April 19th

I encourage all FLASHERS to identify a local non profit that fits their interest and get involved and volunteer! Please FLASHERS!!  You have no idea the impact you can have. Amazing things can happen when we come together, help each other, share ideas, donate our time, donate what we can afford...Through our actions the 'heart' of our community grows stronger and the 'beat goes on!' United Way has a great link that list local non profits. Why not take a look?

Thank you~

.
Captain Kirk Van Hart is an accomplished artist who brings to Kashi Sunday Market handmade local bamboo walking sticks designed with you in mind. He humorously refers to them as "best friends." No matter how tall or short you are, there is a "best friend" for you and you can choose among a variety of styles and weight that fits your particular walking need.
.
In addition Captain Kirk has some bamboo wind chimes made of the same local bamboo and marine twine that together make a unique individual sound, never one to be duplicated by any other. Captain Kirk assures us that he can make custom designed items especially for you.
He also makes bamboo back scratchers and fish whistles but is also receptive to creating any ideas you might have in the bamboo medium.
You can personally call captain Kirk Van Hart at 772-388-9881 or email him at [email protected] to explore any of your ideas. He welcomes your input.

THE EASTER EGG TREE

Easter is just over 2 weeks away and I thought you might enjoy learning of this German tradition. Ostereierbaum, is a centuries old tradition in Germany where the branches of trees are decorated with eggs for Easter. It is a tradition that has been lost on the most part throughout the years.  is lost for the most part. One couple however, the Krafts, had been keeping it alive for the past 50 years. Over the years the tree has grown from a mere sprig to the decorated beauty featured in the center above. The 10,000 eggs that delighted the tree were received as gifts, hand painted by friends and family, crocheted; there was every single designed egg imaginable in the collection. 2015 was the last year the Krafts honored this age old tradition. Volker Kraft turned 80 and decided it was time to celebrate the holy holiday quietly. Click Here to see a full article and some amazing pictured. You will enjoy it!
