HAPPY THURSDAY FLASHERS!
This week has been quite a week to juggle! My sister and I moved my Mom and unpacked what seems like hundreds of boxes. We starred in our own rendition of a Lucy and Ethel skit as we moved furniture from this wall to that wall...back to the other wall... well, maybe it will look better in that back bedroom... We aren't talking a small little chair here. One piece, that was just moved once...thank goodness, is a 7' buffet with a 2" piece of marble that took four guys to move to the 'wrong spot'. But we managed to slide it on towels to the 'perfect' new spot. You got the picture... Right? Oh...picture...That reminds me of hanging her pictures. She 'has an eye' for that you know. But... you can't always count on that 'eye'! ha ha... "Can you move it down just about an inch?" You don't know my Mom, so you have no idea how many paintings she has. Let's just say... She loves to collect art! We worked tirelessly to clear a path and a table to only return the next day to her sitting behind a cluttered table that didn't come close to resembling the one we left just hours before. The best part... she's just there giggling the way she does like a kid that has been caught with her hand in the cookie jar! I just love my MOM and I am thrilled that her new home is beginning to feel 'like home'. We are all still friends too! YAY!!
More fun....Almost as much fun as moving!!! FLASH was hacked and my tech guy who built my site has moved to France! So.... it's a process. My apologies if you are having a problem accessing the app or our calendar. Also, the new newsletter program we are using is truncating the issue. If this is happening in your browser look for a link at the bottom that says 'click here to view in its entirety.' Thanks for your patience! Oh...I had the wrong date for the Titanic last week! Thanks to all of you who kindly let me know I am not a historian...But I try! Remind me to tell you about taking WWII as an elective my senior year in college....With the hardest teacher at Mercer. (something I did not know)
I head to Miami today to pick up the May calendar. (Can it really be May already?) I will meet with the termite people Friday morning before clearing my house of all food and heading to Savannah, GA to join my husband for a Mercer University Trustee Dinner. Saturday is my birthday...Happy Birthday to me... and next week I will head to Augusta for my tooth implant!...Again, Happy Birthday to me! Anyone want to change places? I am hoping that all of you will be enjoying the fun right here at home this weekend! Season may be over or coming to an end...but the events keep on a comin''!!! You can go to the play 'Elephant Man' tonight at the Freshman Learning Center. Then head to the Farmers Market and Earth Day with the kids on Saturday and DON'T miss the Duck Derby on Sunday...You'll love it and you can adopt a duck for only $5 for a chance to win a lot more. Sunday night head south to Endless Summer Vineyard and Winery for an outdoor concert with Wildheart Harmony Band. Have FUN FLASHERS...and as Eeyore would say... "DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME!" ... Did I tell you I think I'm getting sick?
Thank you~

IMPACT 100 AWARDS GRANTS TOTALING $4021,000

On Monday March 14th 2016, the first Dede Ashby scholarship was awarded to a teen enrolled in Youth Guidance. Lucy Gomez was the recipient of a $1,200 college scholarship awarded at Parent Engagement Night, an evening of celebration and recognition that includes children, parents, mentors and staff. Lucy will be attending Indian River State College in the Fall, and then complete her degree at one of Florida's Universities. As the past president of the Youth Guidance Excel Club ( a youth Exchange Club) and a leader in organizing community service projects for her peers, Ms. Gomez is off to a great start, and able to choose a future that matches her unbridled potential.
Dede Ashby and her family were there to present the scholarship, which was created by her daughter Laurie Connelly, and son Trey Higdon. "We wanted a lasting way to recognize our mom, and all she has done for children over the years," said Mrs. Connelly. "We'd like to get all of our family members involved and have the amount of the scholarship grow each year."
