HAPPY THURSDAY FLASHERS!

As we begin to close out the second week of May, we find our calendars packed with end of the year programs. Some of us carry tissues as we come to the reality that many of our seniors will soon be spreading their wings and leaving home, we also carry tissues as we gear up for the wedding season.  In this issue you will find some fun gift ideas for those special seniors and you will see a post for The Knot Swap Bridal Market that is taking place this weekend.

The Knot Swap is a fun, safe and convenient way for newlyweds to sell their once used wedding decorations and dresses to future brides post 'I Do's'.  Future brides, friends and family loved the inaugural event last year and enjoyed the bargain hunting. Shoppers snagged up signs, hauled out boxes of mason jars, and loaded their cars with flower arrangements, candles and more. Spread the word to all the soon-to-be-brides you know. The Knot Swap will take place on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. First Look is available at 10:00 a.m. and is reserved for shoppers who purchase a special $18 pass (or 3 for $15/ea.) that provides exclusive access for one hour prior to general admission at 11:00. Each shopper will be treated to champagne, passed hors d'oeuvres, unbelievable bargains, raffle prizes and a vendor meet and greet.

There are two inaugural events taking place this weekend. One is the Lionfish Fest that is this Saturday at Capt. Hirams. It includes a fishing tournament, and a cook-off competition. All attendees will be able to try multiple lionfish dishes prepared by competing local restaurants and you can vote for your favorite. On Saturday you can also drink some coffee and green tea and learn how it can help boost some weight loss goals. This is an exciting new product that you will start to hear a lot about. (see post below)

A few recurring things that continue to draw local interest... Each year IRCHS presents their VAPA show. The show takes place tonight and tomorrow night and spotlights art, drama, dance, and music. You will be entertained and amazed at the talent of these students! I attended the school's award ceremony this week and was awestruck at the accolades and the talent. You will be too! Join me as we support our very talented youth!

Then find out more about your family by joining a genealogy class. One starts this Saturday. We are quite lucky to have such an incredible resource in our own back yard.  Check it out!

Lastly, head over to Ocean Drive and enjoy the free outdoor concert.  If you have never been to one of these concerts...you simply have to go! Take your beach chair and relax as you listen to the sounds of Category 5 that will entertain you with The Blues and some R&B. Now go have some fun FLASHERS! Enjoy yourselves and our community!

Thank you~

WEEKEND PROJECT
MAGNETIC SPICE RACK
.

I love this idea. If you have room in your kitchen this makes a fun and easily  assessable spice rack. If I try it though I think I will look for different jars. Jelly jars seem a bit heavy to me. I am envisioning different styles depending on how the frame is painted. The ideas are endless. You could do something similar for the office to hold paper clips, rubber bands, staples, push pins ...aka ...thumb tacks and more! Let me know if you try it. Send me a picture.

GRADUATION GIFT IDEAS

Our high school seniors will be graduating soon. Send them off on their next life adventure with one of these great gifts. You can create any of these with relatively little effort and it will be a cherished gift that will most likely be like no other received. Click on the cooler image above for a step-by-step 'how to' guide for painting a cooler. (scroll up when page opens) The second is a 'brown paper package tied up with string...' that will include some of your graduate's favorite things. Some suggestions to include: a special CD downloaded with favorite songs that will bring back cherished memories of time together, a special framed picture, a little book with some of your favorite memories. For my children I asked those who had played an important role in my child's life to write down some thoughts and memories. I put them all together in a cherished scrapbook that still conjures only the best emotions. I asked family, friends, teachers, pediatrician, elementary teachers etc. Lastly, a magnetic bulletin board that can be hung in the dorm. This is created from a cookie sheet. (click image for how-to info) If you'd like, you could use plain fabric and paint on a monogram or school logo. You can
from photos or
personalize with inspiring words. Don't ya love it? No doubt your graduating senior will!
DID YOU KNOW?
Sometimes Off Isn't Off!

Many of our electronics are still pulling quite a bit electricity when plugged in and turned 'off'. For example, your Apple MacBook pulls 48W when charging and 27W when closed, charged and still plugged in. You might be surprised when you see how other electronics are eating up your wattage when they are off, in stand by mode or sleep mode. Click Here to read the full article.

'SCENE AROUND TOWN'
Send us your photo

VNA Home Health and Hospice is pleased to announce Katalin 'Mimi' Bott, a licensed practical nurse (LPN), has been named VNA's spring 2016 associate of the quarter. Bott has been with the VNA since October 2014 and was selected by a group of peers for her integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellent customer service. Bott was nominated for the honor after the caregiver of a VNA home healthcare patient wrote a letter describing the wonderful care Bott provided the caregiver's bother. The letter commended Bott on the level of skill she had for proper wound care and applauded her "positive and humorous approach" to care.
