HAPPY SUPER BOWL, FLASHERS!
This is a really 'super' issue in honor of you-know-what! This coming Sunday is the big day and you will find the schedule and everything else you might want to know about Super Bowl 50 in the posts below. If you aren't a football fan, the commercials and half-time show are always fun to watch. As usual, they're keeping the commercials under wraps, but rumor has it that they are going to be more humorous and celebrity filled than ever before. As for the game itself, there are some stats that you may not know that could make the game more interesting.

Back in 2010, the Carolina Panthers had the worst record for that
NFL season at 2-14, which gave them the right to make the first selection in each round of the draft for 2011. With their first pick, the Panthers selected Auburn University quarterback Cam Newton, who was the 2010
Heisman Trophy winner. That was quite a year and daughter Allie was lucky to attend Auburn for their undefeated season and national championship! In spite of his college success, some felt that he wasn't ready for the NFL. One reporter, Jim Folsom of The Bleacher Report, was especially critical stating in a headline that the "Carolina Panthers' New QB Is the Worst NFL Draft Pick Ever."
He's now somewhere 'licking his wounds'.
Cam has set records ever since and the 27 year-old will be the Panthers starting quarterback Sunday! (Remember what I said about 'critics' last week? I really love to see them proved wrong:)

On the other side will be the Broncos veteran quarterback, Peyton Manning, who at 39 is the oldest quarterback in the league. He has been playing in the NFL for 16 years and there are rumors that he might retire after this game. Peyton is one of the most prolific passers in NFL history. He's won the MVP award a record five times and led his former team, the Indianapolis Colts, to victory in Super Bowl XLI.

So FLASHERS, it really could be one of the most 'super' Super Bowls ever. Though my heart follows Cam because of daughter Allie's allegiance to Auburn; I'm also a Peyton Manning fan and this could be his last game. Hmmmm?!  I guess I'd be happy to see either one win.

Thank you~

SUPER BOWL PARTY DECOR
You can use the turf to create a football field tablecloth  and add the football markings (yards) using the white duct tape, ribbon or paint, or simply cut squares from the turf for coasters. Team colors for the Panthers are blue and lime green and for the Broncos, orange and blue. Tie bunches of balloons in the team colors to decorate the room. Cut out team pennants from construction paper. Wrap them around  plastic straws and secure with tape to put in a row of beer bottles for a centerpiece.

 DO YOU KNOW
HOW MUCH SUPER BOWL COMMERCIALS COST?

$160,000 is the price per second for a 2016 spot commercial. Advertising costs will total a record $377 million, according to Advertising Age Datacenter's estimates. That's more than the combined spent on all Super Bowl ads in the 1960s, '70s and '80s with a total of $299 million.

MARDI GRAS IS THIS TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH

  TODAY'S CHUCKLE

A young man was very excited because he had won a ticket to the Super Bowl. His excitement lessened as he realized his seat was in the back of the stadium. As he searched the rows ahead of him for a better seat, he found an empty one right next to the field. He approached the man sitting next to the empty seat and asked if it was taken.
 The man replied, "No."
Amazed the young man asked, "How could someone pass up a seat like this?"
The older gentleman responded, "That's my wife's seat. We've been to every Super Bowl together since the day we were married, but she has passed away."
"Oh, how sad," the man said. "I'm sorry to hear that, but couldn't you find a friend or relative to come with you?"
"No," the man said, "They're all at the funeral."
FLASH VIDEO OF THE WEEK
SAY GOOD BYE TO BUDWEISER'S SUPER BOWL PUPPY :(
For the last couple of years, Budweiser has won USA TODAY'S award for the #1
most popular Super Bowl Commercial featuring a Labrador puppy wi
th his Clydesdale buddies, but no more. In spite of their popularity, they have learned that these emotional commercials don't sell beer. I guess they need a more 'macho' image. Supposedly, the Clydesdale horses will still be seen this year but in a different type setting. For one last look, here is last year's commercial of the "Lost Puppy." Click here.

 RECIPE OF THE WEEK
SUPER BOWL MENU
Since the Super Bowl kick-off  doesn't begin until 6:30, that's suppertime and your family and guests are probably going to be starving! You're going to need a heartier meal than just the usual wings and dips.  Here's an easy family favorite.
MOM'S 'SUPER' SLOPPY JOES

My Mom had a lot of school pa
rties for my sisters and me when we were growing
up and this was her 'go to' recipe for those occasions. Easy to make and kept warm in a crock-pot, it will generously serve 25 people.

INGREDIENTS
5 lbs. Ground Beef
1 bottle Kraft Original Barbecue Sauce
1 can Cream of Tomato Soup
25 Hamburger Buns

DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, brown hamburger meat. When done, remove meat with a large slotted spoon to drain fat. This can be cooked and refrigerated the day before then moved to a crock-pot to heat.  Stir in the barbecue sauce and tomato soup. If you like it thicker, add about a half cup of dry instant oatmeal. Heat through then turn on low to keep warm until ready to serve.

Serve with a tossed salad,  coleslaw or veggie dip, cheese and crackers, a couple of your favorite dips  and maybe cookies and/or ice cream bars during the last quarter, - or a bowl of apples for the diet conscious:)

Remember to buy sturdy paper plates and plastic forks!

'Forever Young'

Who ever said "youth is wasted on the young" never met Sebastian resident, Kenny Falk.

Kenny wanted to mark his 85th birthday in a non-traditional way.  So, on January 30th, accompanied by his wife, daughter and several friends he went out to Skydive Sebastian.  After completing a very lengthy (and scary to his family) form, he paid his money and met Tim, the man to which he would be tethered for the jump.

Kenny, being Kenny, didn't just put on an ordinary pair of sneakers, jeans and a shirt for the jump.  Oh no!  Kenny wore his tuxedo, tuxedo shirt, lime green vest and bowtie, and leather shoes for his jump.  Upon his safe return, the stage was set for Kenny to toast his successful return to Mother Earth.  Upon returning to the building and the hearty congratulations of his family and friends, he was handed a martini, straight up, with olives.  After several sips Kenny exclaimed, "My name is Bond.  James Bond." He says he will return on his 90th birthday!
