Happy Thursday FLASHERS~
Well, it has been quite a start to 2015. As you know, the family came down with the flu over Christmas. I was sick as a dog for a full week, got well for a day and a half and then came down with the stomach flu that I have been fighting now for about another week. I apologize for my delayed response to some of your emails. I am working my way through them and will hopefully be completely caught up by Monday. I am also working my way through your survey responses. Unfortunately the survey link in last week's newsletter did not work. I therefore am including it again this week and will be drawing the winner of our 'staycation' on Monday, January 19th. I also want to let some of you know that I will be unable to contact you if you have requested that through the survey. For some reason I have about 28 responses that came back as anonymous. If you have not heard from me, and you requested that I contact you, please feel free to email me at verobeachflash@gmail.com. Know that I am very much enjoying your responses and so greatly appreciate your feedback. It has already been tremendously helpful!
It's no secret that as humans, we all like to be heard. Sometimes we wish someone would listen to our opinion. Sometimes we wish someone wanted it. Sometimes we give it even when not requested. Having a voice in things we care about is crucial and I encourage all FLASHERS to speak up in 2015. I would often tell my children when they were younger that they couldn't be upset about something if it wasn't important enough at the time for them to speak up. Most often an opinion will lead to an action, which leads to the next lesson I tried to instill in my children. If something matters and is important enough, then you should be willing to mobilize...take a stand...do something...and finally... give it your time! Once you do that, it becomes a part of who you are! Find something that energizes you this year FLASHERS. Something that you can become passionate about. Something that will motivate you to participate, speak up, mobilize and embrace! If each one of us made that our mission in 2015 I have absolutely NO DOUBT that our wonderful community would be quite the lucky beneficiary and the outcome would be something quite spectacular! Think about...How could it not impact and improve our community. We have seen the impact that one person can have. If all of our nearly 6,500 subscribers were moved to the point of mobilizing...Oh my...imagine the impact! Let's do it! The outcome will be amazing!
You can start with the post below from a fellow FLASHER that is asking for your feedback. That's right...your opinion. It's a quick 8 question survey requesting your awareness about something local. She needs a minimum of 300 people to answer. Rarely do I come right out and ask something of you. But, I am this week. Please take her quick survey and let your voice be heard. Then find a cause or mission ...something really special to you...and hook your wagon up and go on an amazing ride! Have a fun weekend FLASHERS. There are some fun things going on as usual! Make sure to check out the calendar and the posts below. I personally think I will head to the Countryside Citrus U-Pick strawberry field this weekend on my way to the Frog Leg Festival! :)

FASCINATING STORIES
The antique experts, the Kovels have released their top ten 'collectors' stories of 2014. Some of their subjects included the family that found $10 million in gold coins in their backyard, and a found message in a bottle dated 1913 that was pulled from the Baltic Sea last year. To read details on these and the other eight stories, Click here.

As many FLASHERS resolve to get organized in 2015...why not try creating this magnetic chalkboard family calendar that I found on The 36th Avenue
blog. It's not painted and is actually a piece of vinyl adhered to the fridge with Washi Tape. For complete DIY instructions

DID YOU KNOW?
THAT VINEGAR HAS BEEN AROUND 'FOREVER'?
...or at least since 5000 BC! Legend states that a courtier in Babylonia discovered wine was formed from unattended grape juice. This lead to the eventual discovery of vinegar. History also states that even before 5000 BC, a civilization of ancient Babylonia used vinegar as a cleaning agent. The Babylonians later discovered that vinegar slows or stops the action of bacteria that spoils food, so they started using it as a preservative as well as a condiment. Readers Digest has an interesting slideshow of the possible current benefits of apple cider vinegar, from losing weight to fading bruises. To view it, Click here.

FLASH BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK Sponsored by: Center for Facial Aesthetics
Skin Care for Gym Groupies
We all know working out is great for our overall health, but a little-known fact is that sweating can be beneficial to your skin too because it releases toxins and clears pores. But exercise can also be bad news for skin if you're not pro-active. Follow these 10 simple tips for keeping your skin healthy amid those New Year's fitness resolutions:
1. Use disposable body wipes or medicated/herbal wet tissues right after a workout. This will help in removing excess oil from your skin.
2. Always carry a small towel with you to wipe the excess sweat.
3. Avoid touching your face time and again with bare hands to keep bacterial infections and acne at bay.
4. A foot deodorizer is a great way to clean your feet after a heavy workout.
5. Skip the tanning bed. It's harmful to your skin, and there are also cosmetic skin concerns, like wrinkles and sun spots.
6. If you're showering at the gym, make sure the towels you use are clean.
7. Avoid wearing gym clothes after taking a shower. Your gym clothes will be sweaty and grimy, and putting them on clean skin may cause acne and other skin-related problems.
8. Skip the hot water in the shower, since it will strip your skin of vital oils and leave it dry and itchy.
9. Wear a cotton scarf or headband to pull your hair off your face. This will also keep unwanted oils from clogging your pores

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
Squash Chips
A good recipe to help keep you on track with your resolution to lose weight.
Both savory and naturally sweet, these squash chips from Dr. Oz Total 10 Rapid Weight-Loss Plan are full of flavor and the perfect snack. Similar to kale chips, you can munch on these in place of greasy potato chips that leave you feeling bloated and still hungry. Make a batch at the beginning of the week and keep them handy anytime you need a little crunch.
Ingredients
- 1 squash, sliced very thin
- 1 tbsp olive oil, or olive-oil spray
- sea salt
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Place a rack over a baking sheet. Spray the rack with some olive oil.
Arrange the squash slices in a single layer on the rack. Let sit for 10-15 minutes. Blot dry with a paper towel. Coat in olive oil.
Bake 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool completely. Before serving, bake again for a few minutes at 350 degrees F to make them really crunchy.
