too, but the suggestions for your life are even better. Here is one of the captions: "Wag your tail!" O.K., so maybe you don't have a tail, but you can smile or put a spring in your step when you're feeling grateful. Researchers have found a strong connection between gratitude and general well-being. In one study, people who kept gratitude journals had better attitudes, exercised more, and had fewer physical complaints. Chalk paint is quite the fad right now thank you to Annie Sloan who put it on the map. However, it can be quite costly. Here are three recipes that will enable you to make it much cheaper. The best thing about chalk paint is that it eliminates the prep step. It is designed to go on nearly anything you could ever wish to paint on the inside or outside with no prepping or sanding. It covers easily, dries quickly and helps you achieve a beautiful patina that is perfect for distressing with very little time and effort.
You can create chalkboard paint easily too. Use the last of the three recipes that calls for non-sanded grout. Eliminate the water so that you are mixing 1 cup of paint and 2 tablespoons of grout. Mix until it is as smooth as you can get it. Apply two coats and let it dry. Once dry, condition the part of your piece that you want to use as a chalkboard by taking the full length of a piece of chalk and running it over the entire surface. Wipe off with a slightly damp paper towel. It is now 'seasoned' and can be used as a chalk board.
IT'S BACK!
It had been announced that there would be no 2015 polo season in Vero Beach. But, hold the presses...It's Back! Thanks to
Bobby Genovese, owner of BG Polo who signed an agreement recently with the Polo Ground Homeowner's Association to host professional level polo matches this season. So, the games are on and the season is set to begin on Feb. 8th. It will run through April 19th at The Polo Grounds in Vero Beach! Yippee!
SUPER BOWL SCHEDULE
Weren't the playoffs crazy? The Seattle Seahawks barely squeaked by the Green Bay packers, scoring a touchdown in overtime, but the New England Patriots swamped the Indianapolis Colts 45 to 7. The Packers are probably feeling as "deflated" as those Patriot footballs that we've been hearing about. Nevertheless, the Seahawks will meet the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Here is the schedule...So, start planning now for a Kick-Off Super Bowl party!

DID YOU KNOW?
WHY IS GOLD SO VALUABLE?
It is scarce. For example, the amount of iron mined every year is 6,000 times the total amount of gold that has ever been mined! According to the American Museum of Natural History, it is estimated that, worldwide, the total amount of gold ever mined is 152,000 metric tons, only enough to fill 60 tractor trailers. All the gold that has ever been refined throughout history could be placed in a cube measuring 65.5 feet on a side. More than 90 percent of all gold ever used has been mined since 1848, when gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill, California, sparking the greatest gold rush of all time. Getting the 'gold fever' bug just reading this? Well ...plan your own gold panning vacation. Here is a link to a site that lists vacation spots from Georgia to California.
OVERACTIVE BLADDER?
Man or woman, as we age, it's not unusual to find that you're making more frequent trips to the restroom. Our government's FDA (Federal Drug Administration) has released a report on this condition with helpful suggestions that include prescription medication, as well as an over-the-counter 'patch'. TODAY'S CHUCKLE
HEARING CHECK A 90 year-old man went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later the doctor saw the man walking down the street with a gorgeous young lady on his arm.
DOCTOR: "You're really doing great, aren't you?" PATIENT: "Just doing what you said Doctor,
'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful." DOCTOR: What??! I said, "You've got a heart murmur. Be careful!"

FLASH TIP OF THE WEEK
Getting organized is always a popular New Year's resolution. I know I have made it myself a couple of times. That's right, I'm no quitter! :) I figured that this tip will be good for the FLASHERS whose junk drawer looks more like the before picture. A flatware divider can work magic and can organize more than your forks, knives and spoons. Try using it to organize pens, batteries, tape etc. Thanks to the people at Two Twenty One where we found this tip.

To Retinol or Not to Retinol? That is the Question!
What is retinol? Chances are you've heard of it, perhaps even used it before. But do you know what retinol is, and what it does for your skin Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A-an excellent antioxidant and cell communicator. It works by attaching itself to the skin cells and telling them to act healthy and younger, causing cells to turn over faster, making way for new growth. It also hinders the breakdown of collagen and thickens the deep layer of skin where wrinkles first start, thus making retinol extremely effective in not only decreasing fine lines, but also reducing pore size, improving texture, stimulating collagen production, and also managing acne and discoloration. While many dermatologists agree that retinol is the best age eraser available, it doesn't come without side effects. For some, retinol can cause the skin to become irritated. This is far more common when using the prescription form of retinol known as Retinoic Acid, Retin-A or Tretinoin, which as you might suspect, is a much higher concentration. Retinol on the other hand is milder and is converted into retinoic acid when absorbed into the skin.
One of the reasons retinol products cause less irritation is because of the combination of other ingredients formulated to sooth and hydrate. For example, the IMAGE Ageless Total Eye Lift Crème uses retinol combined with green tea, cucumber extract and Echinacea, which are all natural anti-inflammatory ingredients-giving your under eye area all the benefits of retinol, but with less irritation. The Ageless Total Repair Crème blends retinol with AHA exfoliators to repair sun damage and reduce wrinkles, along with Hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin. Both the Eye and Repair crème are applied nightly, a general rule for all retinol products, as the skin renewal process makes your skin more sensitive to the sun.

Howard Ben Tré: New Sculpture January 24 - May 17, 2015 Howard Ben Tré: New Sculpture is an exhibition of stunning cast glass and bronze sculptures, including works from his recent "Lightness of Being" series. With sculpture represented in more than 85 museum and public collections, Ben Tré is a pioneer in the use of cast glass as a sculptural medium. His recent sculpture was inspired by traditional architectural forms of columns, spires, minarets and obelisks. At the same time, they can be seen as individual figures forming a related family group within a defined space. Each sculpture has a foot anchoring it firmly to the ground, a demarcated waist and a head that continues the upward movement of the form. As individual works, they speak to the connection between architectural forms and the creation of human communities. This top-secret group of GI's used inflatable tanks, sound effects, and carefully crafted illusions to deceive Hitler's legions during World War II. Author and documentary filmmaker Rick Beyer has spent the last decade researching the unit and interviewing its survivors. He presents this quirky and sometimes humorous story with clips from his award-winning PBS documentary on the unit, images culled from collections around the world, and a few surprising illusions of his own. Many of the soldiers were artists, including future fashion designer Bill Blass and painter Ellsworth Kelly, and Beyer weaves their wartime art into this incredible tale of creativity being used to save lives.
