Happy Health, Flashers!
In less than a week it will be April which is Cancer Control Month. Controlling cancer has made major strides since the Congress of the United States, passed a joint resolution way back on March 28, 1938 requesting that the President issue an annual proclamation declaring April as "Cancer Control Month." President Obama recently renewed that proclamation on March 17th of this year. I personally can attest to the improvement in the quest to control cancer. Before I was born, my Grandfather died in 1955 of colon cancer at the age of 60. My Grandmother died at 62 from the spread of breast cancer in 1966. BUT my Mother had lung cancer in 1995, has survived colon cancer twice since then, recently turned 82 and is cancer free! You have no idea how happy that makes me! :) With testing, early detection and the many new treatment plans, Cancer no longer is the death sentence it once was. April 1st is next Wednesday. Celebrate your good health by scheduling all those checkups and mammograms! I love our Flashers and want you to stay around a long, long time!
Thank you~

TAX TIP
WATCH FOR SOMETHING NEW ON YOUR TAX FORM!
The Affordable Care Act (AKA), more commonly known as 'Obamacare', could have an effect on your taxes this year. There will be a box on the form to check if you signed on to the program. If not and if you aren't receiving coverage from your employer, you will pay a penalty of $95 for each family member who is not enrolled or 1% of your income, - whichever is greater. (These penalties will double next year.) It may also affect your refund. To see if it might affect you or your family, you can read this report from CBS News. Click here.

DID YOU KNOW? THE MOST COMMON ZODIAC SIGNS FOR PRESIDENTS Citizens of the USA have tended to somewhat favor the Zodiac Sun Signs of Scorpio and Aquarius for their Presidents, each with 5. Least favorite are the Zodiac Sun signs of Aries, Gemini, and Virgo, each with only 2. Oddly enough at this time, the two front-runners for their respective parties were born under the two most popular signs. Hillary Clinton (Oct. 26,1947) is a Scorpio and Jeb Bush (Feb. 11, 1953) is an Aquarius. For a list of signs for all the Presidents, Click here. NOTE: Probably like you, here at Flash we don't put much faith in horoscopes, but we do think it's a fun subject to explore. It may come as no surprise that both Barack Obama and Bill Clinton are Leos. Leos are known for their "personal magnetism and ambition, who never shy away from the limelight." Hmmm? ANOTHER REASON TO QUIT SMOKING
To Keep Teeth White, Don't Light Up
Not only is it bad for your health, smoking is one of the worst offenders when it comes to staining teeth. Tobacco causes brown stains that penetrate the grooves and pits of tooth enamel. Tobacco stains can be hard to remove by brushing alone. The longer you smoke, the more entrenched the stains become. As we know, it increases the risk of most types of cancer, but it also causes bad breath and gingivitis (gum disease).

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
PERFECT SPRINGTIME CASEROLE!
HOT CHICKEN SALAD
This recipe came from our 'family cookbook' and is one of my Mom's favorites. She even had the caterer prepare it for my sister's wedding brunch, but it's good for a summer supper too. Serve it with a big bowl of fresh fruit!
INGREDIENTS
3 whole chicken breasts, cooked, boned and cut into bite size pieces
Shortcut: Use a rotisserie chicken from the market:)
2 - 5 0z. cans thin sliced water chestnuts
1 can undiluted cream of celery soup
1 can undiluted mushroom soup
1 cup mayo
3/4 stick butter, melted (You can substitute liquid margarine.)
Pepperidge Farm plain cornbread stuffing
DIRECTIONS
Grease rectangular glass baking dish
Mix all but last two ingredients and pour over chicken
Top with dry cornbread crumbs and dot with melted butter
Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes
If your family will go for it...put in some steamed veggies...carrots, celery, broccoli...YUM!
ENJOY!

FAIR proceeds support our community
'One of the local charities that proceeds from the Firefighters' Fair supports is the Indian River Burn Fund. This year, fair-goers got to witness the charity-in-action with a special check presentation for two-year-old burn victim, Jazarien Mincey. Pictured here is Fair General Manager Wayne Howard (left) and Assistant Manager Steve Graul (right) presenting a $5,000 "check" to Genea Mincey for two-year-old Jazarien, who suffered severe burns from a boiling water accident in December. His sister, Jada, celebrated her sixth birthday that evening with special gifts from the firefighters.'

Fourth Annual Fashion Show
Another Success
Cloudy skies and a light drizzle didn't begin to put a damper on the recent "Fashion On A Budget" fashion show and luncheon put on by The Original Welcome Wagon Club of Sebastian. The annual sold-out event held at the Sebastian Elks Lodge showcased outfits that members purchased at local consignment stores and thrift shops and then modeled for the attendees. The models proved you can successfully "dress for less!" Along with the fashion show, guests enjoyed lunch, a Chinese Auction consisting of over 70 items, a chance to win one of seven raffle items and a chance to win one of 18 door prizes contributed by local businesses.
Proceeds collected from the show will be donated to various local charitable organizations and given as scholarships. If you would like more information on the club please call Toni 772-205-8714 or email Sharon Smith, Historian for the club, atshareward@comcast.net
