Happy Day of Prayer, Flashers.

Today is  the National Day of Prayer which is held annually on the first Thursday in May. This day of observance, designated by the United States Congress, asks people "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". The modern law formalizing the annual National Day of Prayer observance was enacted in 1952 and signed by President Harry Truman.  To view this first proclamation by  President Truman, Click here. Each year since then the president of the United States has signed a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. To view President Barack Obama's official proclamation from last year, Click here.

Though the two proclaim the same observance, the wording is distinctly different. My faith is something that has guided me throughout my life and directs my thoughts and actions in basically everything I do. (Thank you Mom for instilling that in me!) I love that we, as a country, can still call all Americans to turn to prayer on this special day each year. It is somewhat ironic since there has been a movement to reduce 'God's' presence in our lives by outlawing prayer in school and even religious holiday displays in some areas of our country. I try very hard to stay neutral in FLASH. However, when it comes to God and prayer, I have no problem voicing my thoughts. I think prayer is needed now more than ever! So, I hope each of you will take a moment today to pray for our country and especially for the safety of our men and women in service.

If you want to join in prayer with others today, you will find a post below from the Military Moms  Prayer Group who will be meeting this afternoon. They would love to see you there! In today's FLASH you will find  that there is a Mothers' Day theme to many of the postings.  That's because Mothers Day is this Sunday! Don't forget your Moms! I have no doubt that behind every single FLASHER is a fabulous Mother! Enjoy your weekend FLASHERS and make sure to check out the calendar.  And oh...Don't forget to say a prayer!

Wishing a Happy Mothers' Day to all of our Flasher Moms!

DID YOU  KNOW?...FUN TRIVIA FACT!

The first Burger King was opened in Miami, Florida in 1954.

FLASH FACT WORTHY OF KNOWING
EXCERPT FROM LISTVERSE: BRYAN JOHNSON JULY 20, 2011

"Maurice Hilleman is credited with saving more lives than any other scientist in the 20th century. He was an American microbiologist who developed over three dozen vaccines. In 1909, Hilleman was born near the town of Miles City, Montana. His twin sister died at birth, and his mother passed away two days later. In 1941, Hilleman received his doctoral degree in microbiology from the University of Chicago. From 1948 to 1958, he began to research the influenza virus. The 1918 Spanish flu is the most serious influenza pandemic in recent history. During the 1918 flu pandemic, some 550 million, or 32% of the entire world population was infected, between 50 and 100 million died, making the pandemic one of the deadliest natural disasters in human history.

In the 1950s, Maurice Hilleman identified the fact that genetic changes occur

when the influenza virus mutates, known as shift and drift. The discovery helped him recognize that an outbreak of flu in Hong Kong could produce a huge pandemic in the 1950s. Following a hunch, Hilleman discovered a new strain of influenza. He developed a vaccine for the virus and forty million doses were distributed all over the world. In 1957, Hilleman joined the Merck & Co. research organization in West Point, Pennsylvania. While working at Merck, Maurice developed over forty experimental and licensed animal and human vaccines. In 1963, Maurice Hilleman's daughter Jeryl Lynn was diagnosed with the mumps. In response, he cultivated material from her, and used it as the basis for a mumps vaccine that is still used today.

Maurice Hilleman and his group of researchers invented vaccines for measles, mumps, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, chickenpox, meningitis, pneumonia and Haemophilus influenzae bacteria. He also played a role in the discovery of the cold-producing adenoviruses, the hepatitis viruses, and the cancer-causing virus SV40. Maurice considered his work on Hepatitis B to be his single greatest achievement. He ran his laboratory like a military unit and did not name any of his vaccines after himself. He passed away on April 11, 2005, at the age of 85. "

Look Your Best! ~ Snack On Citrus!

Need a little detox? Lemons support your liver and kidneys, and there's a clear connection between healthy organs and healthy skin. Vitamin C-rich food such as oranges may help prevent wrinkles, too.

Mist yourself - Mists are all the rage right now in the beauty world, and with good reason. They feel great on your skin , and keep a bottle by your desk to refresh your skin throughout the day. Not sure what kind of mist to choose? Try our Balancing hydration setting spray by Jane Iredale. Perfect way to keep your face fresh all day.

Have A Cup Of Tea - Take a moment out of your day to enjoy a steaming mug of white or green tea,  both of which can do wonders for your complexion. In addition to adding a blast of hydrating to your skin cells, tea may also assist with antiaging.

Massage In Your Moisturizer - Rather than dabbing on your face cream, use gentle pressure, massaging into your skin in a circular motion. Do the same when you wash your face. This simple trick will kick your circulation into high gear. Plus, it feels great!

Pop A Zit - Shhhh.. you didn't hear from us, but popping a pimple can actually be okay sometimes, if you do it right (not-scaring-inducing) way! Zits always seem to show up when you're already stressed, so don't take out your exciting troubles on your poor, helpless face. Only give the spot a squeeze if it's white on top. Using two cotton swabs, gently press on both sides until it pops. Once you've cleaned it off, dab on our Acne lotion by Image skin care as a spot treatment. This will speed up the healing process and will make sure it does not return.

Eat Chocolate. Seriously. - We know. We know- everyone always says chocolate causes acne. But there's no scientific proof on that from, so as far as we're concerned, eat up! Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants that help protect your skin, and eating a small piece will send all sorts of satisfied, happy feeling to your brain.

For the above 'Egg dish with a message' use a cookie cutter to cut out a heart shape in a piece of buttered toast, and then place the toast pieces in a hot pan for a few minutes. Flip the bread and crack an egg into the center of the toast for a love-filled main dish!

THE NAVY SEAL MUSEUM EXPANDS

There is only one in the entire Country...and it is right on our Treasure Coast...The National Navy SEAL Museum.

The Trident Challenge is among the new displays the museum unveiled on April 20th at a reception celebrating its $2.2 million expansion. The interactive display gives folks a chance to try their hands at planning SEAL missions. Those whose missions fail go back to BUD/S Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training.

The museum, soon to celebrate its 30th anniversary, is also planning a fourth building on its campus at an additional cost of $4 million, and another $4 million to set it up with displays. Local state representatives and senators are trying to get the Florida Legislature to establish funding for the expansion.

"We've taken the museum to another level," Rick Kaiser, executive director, "Now it's a first-class, professional (museum). It's impressive."
