HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
TO OUR FLASH DADS!
I wonder if you Dads really know how much your family appreciates you, and I include my own husband in that statement. So, Howell, in case you don't know it, you have been a fantastic father to our children and I know that is role of paramount importance! You have always been and still are always full of surprises and that keeps life quite exciting. Most surprises come in the form of a living and breathing something....It began with a puppy when our first child was born. Not sure if a new mother needs a new puppy surprise at that time...Well actually I do...THEY DON"T! But I know the love behind this gesture and the fact that in both our minds the perfect 'Norman Rockwell' picturesque childhood included a boy and his dog. FLASHERS, ...Our dog Georgia was only the beginning of the entourage of animals that designed a unique childhood for our children. We went from a dog to: 3-dogs (1 per child I guess), to rabbits, chickens, horses, a mule, a cow, a peacock and more. I think you get the picture. Our home was not the norm in our Pinecrest neighborhood. We didn't live out in homestead where such things might be expected. But, we had a ball and provided memories for our children that spilled over to their friends and the neighborhood children.
One of my fondest memories was passing Howell in his car one day driving slowly and dangling a feed bucket out the window to lure our mule, Babe, down the somewhat busy 62nd Avenue before turning on our street to lead her back behind the confines of our fenced backyard. Oh...one more memory...My daughter Allie, probably about 7 years old at the time, was the lucky one awarded the honor of leading Sid, our new horse from the trailer to his new home in our backyard. Sid was quite a large horse, even for a horse, and his stride could have rivaled that of American Pharaoh. The differing strides of a large horse and a 7 year old child could only mean one thing. He was closing in on Allie. As he gained ground, my darling daughter started to run, which invited Sid to pick up the pace as well. Allie, still with the lead rope tightly in hand 'freaked out' and was now pleading and demanding an explanation as to why this incredibly large 4-legged animal was following her. Through my laughter (I know...bad mother) and empowered with all of the wisdom my years had provided thus far, informed her that this is what happens when you have a horse on a leash! They were incredible years and we owe the uniqueness to you, Howell! Thank you!
There are all different types of fathers in this world. Some come with live animals in tow and others don't. But, they all have one huge thing in common! They impact the life of another human. My opinion... It's only right to make it a positive impact! I ran across this article a couple of months ago and stuck it in this week's file to include in our Father's Day issue. I love the list of 35 gifts your children will never forget. Click Here to read through the list. I think you'll enjoy it! The list makes it quite clear that the best gifts are NOT bought with money! Have a great weekend FLASHERS and thank the Dad's in your life!
Thank you~

How to activate the 'speak text' option on your devices
It's often very useful to have a document, Web page or e-mail message read aloud to you - to "proof-listen" to it, for example, or just to listen to an article while you're getting dressed in the morning. It is also an extremely helpful way to have your young readers learn how to pronounce more difficult words. Here is how you can activate it on a Mac. In the Speech pane of System Preferences, turn on "Speak selected text." Click Set Key to choose a key combination. Pressing it makes the Mac read anything on the screen, at the rate, and in the character voice, that you've specified.
If you found that difficult to follow...here are a couple YouTube videos that you might find helpful.

DID YOU KNOW?
Your Dryer Sheet Can Do So Much More!
The next time you see dryer sheets on sale, you might just want to consider stocking up. They are quite versatile and can be used for a number of things.
* Dryer sheets work great at keeping your drawers fresh smelling. Simply rip off a dryer sheet and place in the drawer. A dryer sheer works the same way for smelly shoes and sneakers. Just insert a dryer sheet inside each shoe to freshen them up in between wear! * Dryer sheets can also be used to remove static from the body. Simply take one and rub it over a
person's hair to remove the static.
* Cleaning mirrors and glass is a breeze when you use used dryer sheets. * You can also dust with a dryer sheet as well as remove pet hair from furniture. * Wipe a dryer sheet over hair or clothing to quickly eliminate frustrating static

FLASH TIP OF THE WEEK
It's that time of year for lots of fun in the pool! If you have blonde hair or know of someone who does, this is a great tip to keep your hair from taking on that greenish color from too much chlorine. Just dissolve a half-dozen aspirin in a bowl of warm water and rub it into your hair. Let it sit for 20 minutes and wash it out. You should recognize yourself again! :)

Indian river county named bicycle friendly community
.

Indian River County was designated last week as a "Bicycle Friendly Community" by the League of American Bicyclists, a Washington DC based organization dedicated to leading the movement to create a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.
The announcement was made at the Indian River County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) meeting. League of American Bicyclists Vice President Bill Nesper attended the meeting via Skype, presenting the award to the County. In making the announcement Mr. Nesper noted that Indian River County becomes only the 16th Florida Community to be designated "Bicycle Friendly," and the only community to receive the award this year. He further remarked that Indian River County is distinctive in becoming the only entire county in Florida to be designated 'bicycle friendly'; all other awards having been given to individual municipalities.
On hand to receive the award today were the co-chairs of the collaborative committee which submitted the application: Huge Aaron, Director of Advocacy for Vero Cycling Club, and Vicky Gould on behalf of Main Street Vero Beach. Also on hand was Andy Sobczak of the Indian River Government Planning Department who represents County Government on matters pertaining to bicycle and pedestrian safety and infrastructure, and Phil Matson, Indian River County Director of Development. Twenty members of the Vero Cycling Club were also in attendance, all arriving-of course-by bicycle. Club director Hugh Aaron expressed particular appreciation to members of the County Government who have worked have worked tirelessly for many years to improve facilities, safety, and education for cycling in Indian River County.

ART CLUB ANSWERS
THE CALL TO HELP
You may have passed by the Bethel Creek House and seen a bit of activity going on and been curious what has been happening. The City of Vero Beach and the Recreation Department asked the artists of the Vero Beach Art Club if they would paint a local scene on the most visible side of the building. This is actually the fourth mural beautification project the city has asked the Art Club to do and their members came together immediately to answer the call to help.
Artist Lee G. Smith presented three sketches with President Sue Dinenno to the Vero Beach City Council and they chose a scene looking out over Jaycee Beach from the boardwalk. Approximately a dozen artists are donating their time to paint the chosen sketch and when it is completed in the next few weeks, there will be a public dedication. The date will be announced soon.
In the meantime, please feel free to stop by and view the artists at work between 8 and 10 a.m. before the sun gets too hot and let the artists know how you like it. All of the paint was donated by Don Smith Paint Store so the club would like to thank them for their generosity.

Vero Beach Museum of Art - 3001 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach FL 33163
June 6, 2015 - September 6, 2015 The Museum's summer, 2015, exhibition, James Prosek: Ocean Fishes, will include a large selection of the artist's astounding paintings of salt water fish indigenous to Florida's waters. Prosek is known for his unusually vibrant, life size depictions that capture the beauty and vitality of our "finny friends." He prepared to paint Florida favorites such as the Snook, the Cobia and the Pompano, by making trips to the locations where these fish can be directly observed, including the Treasure Coast. "If I see my reflection in the eyeball of the fish or whatever, I'll paint that in," Prosek explains. "It's me and the fish. I've kind of described [the paintings] as self-portraits in a way." The exhibition of Prosek's paintings will on view from June 6 through September 6, 2015, in the Museum's Schumann and Titelman Galleries. For more information call: phone (772) 231-0707
