HAPPY LABOR DAY, FLASHERS

Labor Day has been around for a long time. Next Monday will be the 121st celebration of this special day. After several years of previous celebrations by labor organizations in individual states,  on June 28, 1894 the U.S. Congress made Labor Day an official  national holiday. The first Monday in September was "dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers" as a yearly  tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Certainly a well earned holiday, and 'worker' or not, we all get to share in it.

For many of us, it's a quick little reminder of the carefree summer days we just said farewell to. When the kids were younger I remember thinking...YAY! ...A break and we'd pack up the sunscreen and bathing suits and head to the 'family beach house' in Vero where we savored the last bit of carefree fun in the sun before the hard reality of a year of school and schedules set it! I loved this town then when my view was basically a world of 'S's'..... seashells, sand, sun, and salty sea. Making the move from Miami several years ago, to actually call Vero home, has developed a new love. A love for everything that makes our town a community. I love the fabulous people I've met, I love the small business owners, I love the non profits, I love the culture, I love the small-town feel, I love the ease of getting to the events, I love the heart ... As you can see, I've developed a true love affair!  It truly is like living in paradise! So, I am thrilled that FLASH caught on and I have the privilege of promoting our town and events! The fact that FLASH is what is is I owe to each of you. You have shared us with your friends and co-workers who in turn have continued the chain of sharing! Now, I ask that you share us again.  The new app has made it even more convenient to access your special interest events with 13 sub calendars. The coupon side gives you wonderful discounts at some of the most favorite 'local' spots. If you haven't already downloaded it...Please do it now! Go to your app store and search for Vero Beach FLASH. Check it out and use it. FLASH the FLASH app and enjoy some great savings.

Enjoy your long weekend, FLASHERS.  Share our town and share the FLASH!

Thank you~

LIVE MUSIC 'HOT SPOT OF THE WEEK'
14th Avenue Steak House Closing Its Doors!
sponsored by:

------------------------------------------------------

This week we want to shine a final spotlight on 14th Avenue Steak House! After 26 years, Phyllis will be closing the doors for good next Friday, September 11th. That means that FLASHERS have a week to pop in for an evening of reminiscing, best prime rib in town, live music and dancing! The place will come alive, as it has for years, with live music and dancing tomorrow night and again, one final time, next Friday, September 11th.

For years Phyllis has personally greeted her guests night after night and in doing so, created our own local 'CHEERS'. 14th Avenue is the place you could always go where 'everyone always knew your name.' How strange it will be to not have it as an anchor of familiarity on 14th Avenue. But, how lucky we were to have it for the last two and a half decades. Please take some time this week to stop by and say thanks for the memories! After giving so much to our community, I think Phyllis deserved to be inundated with expressions of appreciation!

The one thing we can always count on is ... Change! It is usually never a comfortable experience and so will be the case this time. Phyllis, you will be missed and we wish you years of retirement bliss and extreme happiness! We toast to you! CHEERS!

However, you can determine relationships and other helpful items from property records. The talk includes discussion on the history of U.S. land from the British Crown to the present day, plus various types of deeds and how to use deed indexes to find your ancestors. Land research holds a treasure trove of information that is often overlooked and you will be amazed at the discoveries that await!

Nobody likes to think about death.  But preparing your finances is a kind and loving thing to do for your loved ones.  Most young couples with children should have life insurance.  Term life insurance is relatively inexpensive if you are young and healthy.  Also, a trust and/or a will should be in place.

These policies have exclusions and/or limitations.  The cost and availabililty of life insurance depend on factors such as age, health and the type and amount of insurance purchased.  As with most financial decisions, there are expenses associated with the purchase of life insurance.  Policies commonly have mortality and expense charges.  In addition if a policy is surrendered prematurely, there may be surrender charges and income tax implications.  Guarantees are based on the claims paying ability of the insurance company.

  RECIPE OF THE WEEK
Make Strawberry Ice Cream In A Bag
(A fun labor day recipe!)

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup half n half or milk

1/2 tsp vanilla

3 tbs of pureed strawberries (If you want plain vanilla, just leave out the strawberries)

3 tbsp of sugar  (possibly less if you prefer your ice cream less sweet)

ice

rock salt

gallon size Ziploc bag

quart size Ziploc bag

kitchen towel

Directions:
    1. Mix together the milk, cream, vanilla, sugar and strawberries in the quart size bag.  Close the bag and be sure it is completely sealed.  (Be careful not to get any strawberry puree in the "zippers".)
    2. Fill the gallon size bag 3/4 the way full of ice and add about 1/4 cup of rock salt to the  bag of ice.
    3. Place the smaller bag of ice cream ingredients into the larger gallon bag and seal the bag.
    4. Wrap the kitchen towel around the bag and get to shaking the bags like crazy for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the ice cream is ready. Your hands will still get cold and you might want to share the shaking!
    5. Open the bags carefully, you don't want any ice water in your ice cream!  Serve immediately and enjoy.
