HAPPY, THURSDAY FLASHERS
Yesterday, September 23rd, was officially the first day of autumn. I am feeling a bit lucky because I actually got a glimpse of fall this past week and felt the chill in the air. You see I headed north to the mountains of Highlands, NC for the wedding of a high school friend's daughter. Fall was definitely in the air. I love the change in temperature that serves as the brush that paints our scenery in rich, warm shades of umber, reds, oranges, and yellows. Living in the Florida tropics we don't get to enjoy the essence of fall unless we go in search of it. Below you will find a prediction map for peak fall foliage. Take the time to check out your favorite spots to the north and then, if you can, possibly get away... DO IT! It's important to step back and get away from time to time and fall is the perfect time to do just that.
If you have followed FLASH for a while, you know how I 'love me' a road trip! Combine great weather, a road trip with 6 lifelong, childhood friends and you just created the stuff life is made of! Last week was filled with days of reminiscing, giggles, tears...yes we cry at weddings, and a bucket full of memories! Being with those ladies just seemed to turn back the clock. For a brief time, we were schoolgirls again who stayed up way too late telling stories and catching up on each other's lives. I loved every minute! These gals are those special friends that I hope each one of us has. Those who you see infrequently, but yet you pick right up with without missing a beat? Aren't those amongst the most cherished of life's moments?
There's no doubt that it is always extremely difficult to actually STOP the momentum of every day demands to create the opportunity for such cherished moments. My wish is that each and every FLASHER will step back, take a deep breath, and focus on and make time for the relationships in life that truly matter... friends and family! I am certain that I do not stand alone in realizing the impossible reality that we will be ushering in October next week. Time just seems to speed by...hour by hour, day by day, month by month and year by year! Make those moments matter and make sure that you take the time to create a rich life!

Honoring our First Responders
Thank you to all FLASHERS who responded to last week's feature expressing interest in forming a steering committee to brainstorm and organize a local recognition and appreciation day to honor our first responders. I was quite impressed by the response and emails! This is an effort that is timely in light of the negative press our 'men in blue' have received. I will be back in town next week and will be in touch with information on an initial meeting. There is still time to express an interest in helping out. Simply send me an email and you will be included in all of our correspondence. The more the merrier!! Thanks FLASHERS...Your heart & caring spirit never ceases to amaze me. Stay Tuned!

CHALK PAINT SOMETHING!
THIS PAINT CAN GO ON ALMOST ANYTHING!
What's not to love about a paint that doesn't require a primer? Chalk paint is amazing and easy to use on anything from a flower pot to a dining room table.
Originally produced by a British lady named Annie Sloan, it has now been copied by other brands available in home improvement stores. The original may be a bit pricey, but remember you don't have to buy a primer and a little bit goes a very long way. To learn what you can paint and how to do it from Annie Sloan herself, Click here.

TOTAL SUPER MOON ECLIPSE COMING SUNDAY!
A total eclipse of the year's closest super moon will happen on the night of September 27-28 and be visible from both North and South America. Sky watchers are getting ready for this extremely rare astronomical highlight of the season: a total lunar eclipse and a super moon that will happen simultaneously. A super moon occurs when the moon makes its closest approach to the Earth on its elliptical orbit, resulting in it appearing larger. The stunning show will be visible to the naked eye, and will start next Sunday, September 27, between 8 pm and 9 pm our time and again Monday at around the same time.
NOTE: Why not have a 'Moon Party'? See our recipe idea below.

DID YOU KNOW?
HOW MANY MOON SONGS HAVE BEEN #1?
Since we're writing about the moon eclipse in this issue, we thought it would be fun to check out how many #1 hit songs have moon in the title. In the music world, It's almost as popular a topic as the word 'Love'. Here's what topped the charts:
1910 - By The Light Of The Silvery Moon by Billy Murray
1934 - Moonglow by Benny Goodman
(and #1 again in 1956 when recorded as The Theme From 'Picnic' in the movie.)
1942 - Moonlight Becomes You by Bing Crosby
1942 - Moonlight Cocktails by Glen Miller
1951 - How High The Moon by Les Paul and Mary Ford
1961 - Blue Moon by The Marcels
Surprisingly, Frank Sinatra's Fly Me To The Moon was high on the charts, but didn't make #1. Other popular moon tunes include Moon River, Paper Moon, Moon Over Miami, Shine On Harvest Moon, East of the Sun West of the Moon and Full Moon (and Empty Arms). Elton John, Sting, The Grateful Dead, Prince, The Beatles and Jimmy Buffet are just a few more of the many, many artists that have recorded 'lunar tunes'!

37 BEAUTIFUL 'BOND' GIRLS
THEN AND NOW
His "-name is Bond - James Bond" and seven men have played that role since the first film in 1962 starring the original Bond, Sean Connery. However, the men have definitely been out-numbered by these 37 Bond Girls that co-starred with them. Some of the ladies have aged incredibly well, like Jane Seymour and Terri Hatcher, but others have been less fortunate. To have a look, Click here.

FLASH TIP OF THE WEEK
STRETCH 'STUFF' AND STRETCH YOUR DOLLAR
Toothpaste gone? - Cut off the bottom and squeeze. This also works for cosmetics, lotion and first aid creme in tubes
Ketchup gone? - or mayonnaise or mustard? Make salad dressing or dipping sauce with the little that remains in the bottle. Pour oil, vinegar, or other saucy ingredients into the bottle. Replace cap (firmly) and shake. Experiment with soy sauce, curry powder, lime or lemon juice, apple juice, honey and water, tabasco sauce, etc.
Mascara gone, ladies? Wet brush with water, re-insert it and stir around in tube.
When it is really all gone, rinse the brush with soap and water and save to separate mascaraed lashes for a more natural look.
Stretch your juice? Your fruit juice will last much, much longer if you use it to flavor your water. You'll also really cut your calories and sugar intake. Add enough juice to suit your own taste.

What is diversification as it relates to investing? It is a way to manage risk by mixing a wide variety of investments within a portfolio. The idea behind this technique is that a portfolio of different kinds of investments will, in theory, yield higher returns and pose a lower risk than any individual investment found within the portfolio. Typically, a portfolio of about 25-30 stocks give a good amount of diversification.
