Vero Beach, Fl - Ed. 12.24.2015

Tomorrow is Christmas! The hustle and bustle of the season is nearly over...except for all of our last minute friends who will be frantically struggling to create a magical memory. Throughout the craziness, preparation and attempt on our part to create the perfect 'Norman Rockwell' Christmas, it is easy to lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas. This is a joyous holiday for all Christians. It is the birth of our Lord and Savior. It is a small child, born in a manger, that has brought us grace, love, and forgiveness. It is the sentiment of each that is truly the ultimate gift. None of the preparation, shopping, baking, or decorating can match any of these gifts.

So, ... My editor's note this week is short in length yet strong and steadfast!  It is never to late to give one of the ultimate gifts. As many of us gather around a family table for Christmas dinner, a decorated tree to unwrap gifts of splendor and fun, or connect with loved ones through phone calls, text messages or now even Skype...remember the importance of sharing the ultimate gift.
LOVE...Say I love you!
GRACE...In the Biblical sense it is God's love in action to those who are undeserving. Perhaps there is someone you consider 'undeserving'... Your grace might unlock something magical
FORGIVENESS...In most instances it is the 'need to be right' that keeps a feud or stand-off in tact. So often it is maintained as a barrier from those who mean the most to us...A FAMILY MEMBER! As hard as it might be FLASHERS, I encourage all of you to break down that barrier this year and give the gift of forgiveness. I do believe the true magic of gift-giving that brings the 'giver' more in return will be the ultimate gift you give yourself this Christmas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, FLASHERS!
Thank you~

CHRISTMAS FULL MOON- FIRST IN 40 YEARS!
Wow... we will surely have a happy Santa this year!
Santa's sleigh will find its way much easier this year under the light of a full moon and with less snow in the north! According to NASA, for the first time since 1977 a full moon will light up the pre-dawn sky on Christmas morning. Another Christmas full moon will not occur until December 25, 2034. So, Make sure to take note of our celestial partner that is shining bright in the sky.

A little bit more info...
Though a satellite of Earth, the moon, with a diameter of about 2,159 miles (3,475 kilometers), is bigger than Pluto. (Four other moons in our solar system are even bigger.). The moon is a bit more than one-fourth (27 percent) the size of Earth, a much smaller ratio (1:4) than any other planets and their moons. This means the moon has a great effect on the planet and very possibly is what makes life on Earth possible. Click Here for more

Hope to It: Brightening the holidays for those in need

In one community in North Carolina, a tradition of decorating the neighborhood with homemade Christmas balls has grown into something bigger and brighter: a community effort to raise funds to feed the hungry.

  WINTER?
Yep!  It sure is!  Although it might not feel like it, winter officially arrived this past Monday, December 21st. However, El Nino is at play and messing with our temperatures. A division of The Weather Company, has made their predictions for the year ahead. Based on past strong El Nino winters,  NOAA says we should expect a wetter winter and colder than normal temperatures in the south while our northern friends will experience a much milder winter. Want to read a full report ... Click Here.

What exactly is El Nino? Definition....
  1. An irregularly occurring and complex series of climatic changes affecting the equatorial Pacific region and beyond every few years, characterized by the appearance of unusually warm, nutrient-poor water off northern Peru and Ecuador, typically in late December.

    What is NORAD
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is the U.S. and Canada bi-national organization charged with the missions of aerospace warning, control, and maritime warning for all of North America. This includes the monitoring of man-made objects in space, and the detection, validation and warning of attack against North America by aircraft, missiles or space vehicles.

TODAY'S CHUCKLE
Just before Christmas, two brothers were spending the night at their Grandma's house. At bed time, they knelt down to say their prayers.

As they closed their eyes, one boy said in a loud voice, "Dear Lord, please ask Santa Claus to bring me a telescope and a new bike."

His older brother said, "Why are you shouting? God isn't deaf."
"
I know," said his brother, "but Grandma is."

  RECIPE OF THE WEEK
SAUSAGE GRAVY BISCUITS

This is our family's traditional Christmas breakfast.
It is simple - yet yummy! Just the perfect recipe for the amount of exhaustion that culminates on Christmas morning. It can even be made the night before. We are happy to share its simplicity with your family. ENJOY!!
Ingredients
1 lb of sausage - (I use Jimmy Dean - Hot)
1 can 'family size' Campbell's Mushroom soup
1 TBL of Worcestershire sauce
Biscuits of your choice Pillsbury or Mary B's

I love these Mary B's biscuits, but they are sometimes hard to find. Brown the sausage in a saucepan. When sausage is cooked add the mushroom soup and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for at least 20 minutes for flavors to blend. You can add some water to bring to your desired consistency. Cook biscuits according to package instructions and serve hot with a heaping scoop of sausage gravy! Merry Christmas!

OUR VBHS MARCHING BAND STUDENTS NEED OUR HELP!
FROM KORIE MATTHEW: Reply
Help the Vero Beach Fighting Indians Marching Band get to Atlanta to participate in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on New Years Eve!   The band has been honored with an invitation to compete in various band competitions, march in the Peach Bowl Parade, and perform during the pre-game show.

This is a great opportunity for these young musicians to compete and perform on a national platform that most high school students can only dream of.

To get 240 musicians to Atlanta takes a lot of effort and they need our help to make this dream a reality. Your tax deductible donation will help pay for the buses, hotel rooms, and meals for these talented young musicians.  Any little bit will help make this dream come true for these deserving students.
