HAPPY HALLOWEEN FLASHERS!
Tomorrow is the night that all our little goblins have been waiting for! (And aren't you parents glad it doesn't fall on a school night this year!)The kids will be so excited that it's easy to forget some of the rules. Remind them: Remember to take a flashlight; be extra careful crossing streets; don't eat or keep any unwrapped treats and let Mom or Dad check the candy before you eat any...something especially important if your child has any food allergies. Speaking of those treats, according to one study, fifty percent of kids prefer to receive chocolate candy for Halloween, compared with 24% who prefer non-chocolate and 10% who preferred gum. The National Retail Federation did a survey in 2010 that showed that 72.2% of those surveyed will hand out candy, 46.3% will carve a pumpkin, 20.8% will visit a haunted house, and 11.5% will dress up their pets. In how many of those do you participate? Need a last minute costume so that you or your child can participate in last minute fun...make sure you check out the post below for some quick inspiration. However you and your family plan to celebrate, you'll find plenty to do in our area in the week ahead. ENJOY yourselves, FLASHERS!

RENEE ZELLWEGER
DID SHE OR DIDN'T SHE?
By now you may have heard all the tabloid hype about 45 year old Renee Zellweger. Apparently she attended a recent 'red carpet' event and was unrecognizable to her fans. She says that she's glad that people think she looks different because her life is happier now. In other words, if she's had plastic surgery, she's not admitting it. What do you think? We should all be that happy, right?

FLASH BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK
Sponsored by: Center for Facial Aesthetics
Oxygenation Products
We all know that oxygen is an essential element to sustain life. It's not only what we breathe, but oxygen also kills harmful bacteria in our bodies while leaving the beneficial bacteria alone, something that no antibiotic or drug can claim to do. One of the major benefits of exercise is that it oxygenates your body, which not only improves your overall well-being, but also provides your skin cells with the oxygen they need to carry out their metabolic functions, thus improving the health and appearance of your skin. As we age, the oxygen levels in our facial tissue naturally decline, decreasing blood circulation and causing our skin to look dull. By applying oxygen directly to your face, you can bring back that radiance, freshness, clarity and the firmness of your youth. Oxygen not only softens fine lines and wrinkles, but also kills bacteria, giving the skin a clearer looking complexion. The skin will be smoother, thus making makeup application easier. Who knew that an element found all around us could do that for our skin? At the Center for Facial Aesthetics inside Monnett Eye Center we offer several oxygenating facials. Call us to today at 772-589-8111.

A PRODUCT WE LIKE
PAUL NEWMAN'S CREAMY BALSAMIC SALAD DRESSING
I first had this dressing at my daughter's apartment. I went out the next day to get my very own bottle. Delicious, - and now a family favorite! Perfect on my tomato and avocado salad! I think it would also be a good marinade and could probably be used in our recipe below for Brussels Sprouts....and if you think you don't like this veggie, you might change your mind after tasting this recipe!
NOTE: There is no compensation of any kind for recommending a product we like. We just like to share our "likes" with our Flashers. And if you have tried a product you liked that we may not know about, please pass on your recommendation to us. You might see it in a future issue!

 TODAY'S CHUCKLE
After having a few drinks at a local pub, the two men decided to take a shortcut through the cemetery on their way home. As they followed the path, they heard a frightening noise. The tapping seemed to be coming from one of the gravesites. Carefully they approached the grave and were surprised to see an old man with a chisel and a hammer. "You scared us to death, old fellow. We thought you were a ghost!" said one. "What are you doing out here so late at night?" asked the other. Continuing his tapping, the old man simply replied... "Those crazy fools misspelled my name!"

FLASH VIDEO OF THE WEEK
The Monster Mash
|
DID YOU KNOW? The word "witch" comes from the Old English 'wicce', meaning "wise woman." In fact, 'wiccan' were highly respected people at one time. And did you know that the owl, which is also a popular Halloween image, was believed to be a witch in Medieval Europe. (Hmmm... maybe that connection is how they became known as a 'wise old bird'.) |

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
YUMMY ROASTED BRUSSELS SPROUTS

Brussels Sprouts often get a bad rap from kids and adults. But this roasted Brussels Sprouts recipe is fail-proof. Marinated in balsamic vinegar, olive oil and seasoned to taste, this side dish is crispy and caramely delicious and super easy to make! They're prepped and served to order in 20 minutes-making it a great weeknight side dish-and they're also elegant enough to serve company. You could also follow this recipe and throw them on the grill to cook. If there's actually any left over, they make a good (- and healthy) cold snack, too.
What you'll need
- 1 ½ lbs Brussels sprouts, rinsed and trimmed with outer leaves removed
- 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
- kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Cut off the stem ends of the Brussels sprouts and remove the outer leaves. I like them cut in half lengthwise, but you can leave small ones whole.
- Place sprouts in a medium bowl. Toss with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Arrange the Brussels sprouts on a baking sheet and season with salt and pepper.
- Bake for 15−20 minutes or until sprouts are just barely tender and maybe even still a little crunchy. Turn the sprouts over once halfway through cooking.
- Remove from the oven, place in a serving bowl and enjoy this amazing side dish.
Like your Brussels sprouts extra crispy? Leave then in the oven for a few minutes longer to achieve extra crunch!

Carol Brown Goldberg carries on this "chromesthetic" tradition in her recent paintings, creating, in the words of one critic, "glorious color-saturated paintings that make us feel heavenly."

| 10:00am - 4:30pm | On Exhibit - Carol Brown Goldberg
Vero Beach Museum of Art - 3001 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach FL 33163
Carol Brown Goldberg: Recent Works September 20, 2014 - January 4, 2015 Since the late 19th century, artists have often compared the use of design and color with the work of modern musical composers, with each form or hue corresponding to musical phrases and tones. Carol Brown Goldberg carries on this "chromesthetic" tradition in her recent paintings, creating, in the words of one critic, "glorious color-saturated paintings that make us feel heavenly."

| 7:00pm | Social Justice Film - Multiracial Identity
Unitarian Universalist Fellowship - 1590 27th Avenue, Vero Beach FL
Multiracial people are the fastest growing demographic in America, yet there is no official political recognition for mixed-race people. MULTIRACIAL IDENTITY explores the social, political, and religious impact of the multiracial movement and the lived experience of being multiracial. Different racial and cultural groups see multiracialism differently. For some Whites, multiracialism represents the pollution of the White race. For some Blacks, it represents an attempt to escape Blackness. And for some Asians, Latinos, and Arabs, multiracialism can be seen as ill equipped to perpetuate cultural traditions and therefore represents the dilution of the culture. Cost: free but donations are accepted Contact person and phone #: Nancy Stiefel, 772-778-5880
